The release button is probably restricted with dirt and dust. If you can't get it cleaned out you may have to force it.

There is no drive belt on this model - its a cylinder pull along model.
If there's a problem with the turbo brush you can flip open the base of it by removing the screws, check that the toothed belt is in place and there is no clogs of dirt between the turbine and the brush bar.

If it's not doing this, it might be worth using a little more force than usual, in case the upright lock mechanism has jammed.     It should be placed behind the catch (button). If the button retainers are not broken off, just place it under the catch and snap it back into place.

    Get the filter out of a dyson hoover dc 19 to clean it.

    To remove, wash, dry and replace your DC19's washable pre-filter, please follow the steps shown in our video guide. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it.


    Both of DC19's filters are engineered to last the lifetime of the machine in normal use. The post-filter does not need maintenance, and should not be washed or cleaned as this may damage the filter.

    You may have to press the release button and hold it depressed as you pry the canister loose.

    Dyson upright cylinder stuck wont release to empty unit


    I have had this happen to me (DC14 Animal). This was my experience:

    If you have recently had the motor filter (the "permanent" one under the dust container, right on top of the motor) out and have replaced it, it is important to make sure that the filter cover is down properly, otherwise the canister will not release.

    I got the dust container off by pushing it downwards, quite hard before pressing the release button. You really will have to push straight down on it quite hard. Then investigate why the dust container is so high that it will not release.

    Question re hose and head


    Hi There,
    Ok so the hose definitely cannot be interchanged, all the dysons have a different (slightly) fitting where the hose clips to the vacuum. The head I think can be fitted from a DC19. To be sure I would buy the correct one for your model. Dyson have a bad habit of using different fittings for different models to force you into buying the proper dyson one. With the DC05 and earlier you could adapt heads from normal vacuums but they stopped it from dc08 on.
