The XP Drivers are on Acer PanAm website:

If you do a clean XP install from formatted hard drive, a standard XP install disk will not recognize the controller: you also need SATA drivers for F6 install from Intel download site.
Apart from that, all is straightforward: the proof is that I am writing this on an Aspire 5720 running XP! Good Luck.

You can get the chipset drivers and SATA drivers for F6 Windows XP install from the Intel download site.

Hi All,
We are a workshop in Spain & I have had several problems with "Down grading" to XP. There is essentially one problem which causes an issue with the XP installation & that is if the the BIOS has a "Fixed" sata configuration. By that I mean you cannot change it to some sort of IDE or P-ATA (Symantics). Our current problems are with an Acer 5720 & an HP Pavilion DV9700. The Acer solution is exactly as "kraken3000" had mentioned before:
1. On POST (Powerup). enter BIOS by pressing F2
2. Tab along to the second option "Main"
3. Goto last option "SATA mode" & press enter.
4. From the small selection display select "IDE mode"
5. Save & exit the BIOS. This will then set the SATA mode for XP to be recognise.
DONOT set this back to SATA Mode after you install the XP as it will NOT boot. This setting must be kept untill you "Upgrade" (If ever) to Vista. The HP is another story...
Visit the Acer Panam site & download & install the XP drivers & your good to go...

install a windows xp sp2 sata integrated cd.

Im running 5720z with MS XP PRO SP1. I have problems with the sound, but I think I've downloaded wrong HD audio driver. All other drivers I got by searching on google, with keywords as: 5720z xp drivers. The panam site is a good one. I must warn you guys; u cant have both vista(original OS) and XP on the 5720. Did not work for me. Can only run xp, but I think its because I installed XP on a "fake" partion. If u want both OS' working, you probably need 2 hard drives, one for each operating system.
I ensure you, XP on 5720 is liek heaven. My laptop is now much faster, and xp is more easier than vista.

I Have the Same problem.. BuTTTT I can split the problem into TWO:
1st-SATA drivers needed for Windows XP Setup in the first place -
solution to that - making a 1.44 floppy drivers and pressing F6 throughout the installation of xp - Where to find the SATA you ask? in any Acer's support website... (or you can google "acer aspire 5720 Sata drivers)
2nd-finding truly compatable Device drivers after installing xp -
solution - now you can use acer panam support website like my freinds wrote earlier...

Hi All,
I've followed the steps exactlly as mentioned in the link and after repairing the Vista system, it was supposed to restart in Vista, it didn't and it kept restarting in XP, so I tried to change the setup of the system to SATA again which made the XP crashes. Beside all the drivers that are mentioned in the other link don't work at all.
Please if any body reached to the real solution to this problem just tell us how and we'll follow.

I have an Acer Aspire 5720z, i installed Win XP Home Edition, but i didn't find drivers for SATA. When i try to change in AHCI mode in Bios, the screen became blue, and the computer restart. I have the drivers for floppy, but how can i use them without a floppy disk ?
