SOURCE: Fridge keeps on freezing everything inside of it
This refrigerator only has one thermostat located in the fresh food compartment it is designed to activate the sealed system (cooling) until it reaches approximately 37 deg f in the fresh food compartment. The damper controls how fast the cold air can move from the freezer compartment to the fresh food compartment. Allowing you to control the temp in the freezer by controlling the flow of cold air to the thermostat.
You have one of two problems.
#1 your thermostat is no longer opening when it achieves set temp. fix = replace thermostat pn 61005798 $35
#2 your damper arm or assemblie has broken. Fix = Replace damper or broken arm and actuator.
damper assembly pn12001377 $44
damper actuator pn 61002000 $2
damper arm pn 61001999 $2

This is a common problem and it has to do with the electronic temperature sensor. Check with Sears to see if there is either a recall or a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) for your model. They may try to get you to buy a new circuit board, but the solution is actually the temp sensor itself. (www.searspartsdirect.com) will give you the scematic as well as the part number. Just enter your model and press enter.
SOURCE: Hi, I don't know the model number of my Amana Side
Good day,
Yes, it's the thermostat. On Amana's it's usually the freezer control. The fresh food control was usually a damper. It will be the one that if you turn it to the off position, the machine will stop running.
However, in your case, since it's malfunctioning it may continue to run anyway.
The model number on contemporary models was on an embossed plate located on the top or side interior of the fresh food compartment. It is never on the door.
On older models it was on a plate on the front rail, behind the kick plate.
If you can't find it, you'll need to remove the tstat and take it to an appliance parts house. The thermostat has a part number on it.
Removing the thermostat depends on the model.
SOURCE: Hi, I have a slimline
first thing remove the rear panel inside your freezer locate defrost thermistat do a continuity test on thermostat usually small disc with two wires hooked on copper line on right hand side of condensor also remember while you are there to also do continuity test on heater as well defrost all ice with hair dryer or unplug unit for 24 hrs
Here is what's happening when you have a malfunction in the defrost system.
What can you do about this. Let me explain the defrost system in general so you get an understanding of what is going on.
The coils inside the freezer are the only part inside the whole refrigerator that "get cold". They need to stay free from excess frost build up so that air can pass through the coils and reach the refrigerator section of your refrigerator. Every eight hours or so, depending on the type of defrost timer or control you have, the compressor and fans will shut off and the machine will go into defrost mode. When the refrigerator is in defrost there is a heater that is tied into the evaporator coils inside the freezer that comes on. This heater is behind the rear panel inside the freezer where the evaporator coils are located. It melts the frost that has accumulated over the course of time. After about thirty minutes the machine comes out of defrost and goes back to normal operation.
Now the air can continue to pass through the coils and keep the freezer frozen and the refrigerator cool and everybody is happy.there are four components to the defrost system the defrost thermostat ,the defrost heater, the fan , and the defrost timer or on some other models instead of a timer they have a board on the rear of the machine that controls everything if you have any further questions message me back and please remember when our chat has concluded to rank by ending chat accepting solution and picking how helpful this opinon has been Thanks again Rick

The cold control needs replacing. Thats the knob with the numbers that turn the Ref OFF and ON.
What I do is call my local Appliance Parts Store with my model no. They are extremely helpful .
Get freezer and ref thermometer. Ref is probably too cold.
Freezer should be 0 to 10 degrees. Ref 33 to 35

WATER SPLASHING IN FREEZER AT ICEMAKER
THE FILL TUBE IN BACK OF REFRIGERATOR CAN SLIP
AGAINST THE FILL RESERVOIR CAUSING A PARTIAL BLOCKAGE
OR BECOME CLOGGED WITH ICE.
REMOVE THE ICEMAKER AND INSPECT THE FILL TUBE.
RUN WATER IN TUBE TO ELININATE BLOCKAGE AND CHECK
TEMP IN FREEZER. IF TEMP IS BELOW 0 DEGREES, THATS
OVERKILL AND USUALLY A WASTE OF ELECTRICITY TO KEEP IT THAT COLD, NOT TO MENTION THE FILL TUBE FREEZING UP
