First shut down the computer and remove all cables and the battery.

Look underneath the computer for any screws near the approximate edge of the optical drive (image a square big enough to hold a disc). They may be marked, but whether or not they are marked remove them (there may only be one) and see if you can pull the drive out.

If this doesn't work, look for any screws which might hold the keyboard in place (these are opfen marked "K") and remove them. Then open the computer. Usually, the keyboard is held at the edges by some spring-loaded latches. Use a small screwdriver to both push each latch back and lift the keyboard slightly so that it is no longer held down. Sometimes there are latches on one side and tabs on the other, so first you release the latches then move the keyboard slightly in order to release the tabs. Fold the keyboard back carefully. You may then find a screw or two near the edge of the optical drive. Try removing these and see if the drive comes free.

If neither of these work, then you will have to look harder.

Assuming that you have got the drive out you will need to unscrew any fixing brackets and probably prise off the bezel (unless whatever is on the new drive is physically the right size). The bezel is normally held on by two or three plastic hooks which you can carefully release with a screwdriver. Then put the fixing bracket(s) and bezel on the new drive and install it.

Good luck.

It will be held in place by a single screw. This can either be on the bottom of the machine just behind the drive (towards the center of the base) or under the keyboard.

Once the screw is undone, turn the laptop on, hit eject on the drive so it pops open, turn off the laptop and fully extend the tray - once the screw is removed it should slide nicely out.

SOURCE: HP Compaq nc6320 PC bios password

Ok, as long as the high security level has not been set in the bios then the following will work to reset / disable the bios password.
1. Remove the battery and mains adapter.
2. Remove the memory cover on the back of the laptop and remove the 2 keyboard screws.
3. Open the laptop and at the top of the keyboard you will see 4 sliding tabs. They are located between the 'Esc & F1 keys' 'F4 & F5 keys' 'F8 & F9 keys' and 'F12 & delete keys'. Slide these down and lift the keyboard up and pull forward slightly so as to disengauge the bottom lugs. Be carefull as there is a ribbon cable at the bottom that does not need to be tugged or removed.
4. You will now see at the bottom behind the keyboard a small battery connected to the motherboard. Gently pull the small white plug upwards untill it is removed from the board.
5. Wait 5 minutes and re-connect the small battery plug.
6. Re-install the keyboard and push back the clips. You do not need to replace the screws yet.
7. Apply the DC jack and power on - DO NOT INSTALL THE MAIN BATTERY.
8. Turn the laptop on while pressing f10 repeatedly but slowly - Do not hold it.
9. If high security is disabled you should now be in the setup screen, select 'Restore Defaults' and press F10 to save.
10. The password is now removed.

If this does not work then HP say that there is no other way to reset it. Im not sure about that, there probably is by some method of de-soldering the bios chip. However the above method worked for me so I hope it does for you. Please rate if you have any luck.

SOURCE: Hp compaq nc6320 doesnt charge

I have had a similar problem and solved by another solution. I think you should try it before grabbing a soldering iron.

In my case my charger was not working from one day to another. So I bought a universal charger of Kingston. Worked without any problem for a long time ~6 months. Then same problem again. Checked voltage of the charger and that was okay. Strange thing with a charger of a friend, my laptop charged again! So I thought I needed to buy another one.

Still it was strange that two chargers broke in such short time and at the same time still have voltage around 19V and charging other laptops! So I checked a forum and there I found the follwoing solution (uninstall the AC adapter and reinstall it again in the device manager):

- go to control panel
- system
- device manager
- batteries
- uninstall the programm for the AC adapter
- go back to control panel
- check for new hardware and install the AC adapter software again

Problem solved! Even my old adapter works again!

Hi, removing the hard drive should not damage any component but be sure to touch something metal before you take it out as it will reduce the ammount of static discharge from the body.

Can't reinstall xp pro on my hp compaq nc6320

Stephane, I ran into the same problem after wiping out my Compaq nc6320 and trying to install XP Pro. The fix is to disable SATA Native mode. To do this: Enter F10 Setup then System Configuration>Device Configurations>SATA Native Mode and disable it, save the changes and now you should be able to install XP Pro. Remember, when I did this the drive was blank, I don't know if that makes a difference or not. Best of luck! Bryan P.S. If you want to enable SATA native mode after you have installed XP Pro check out this link: http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1042050&admit=-682735245+1161793137260+28353475
