Question about NetGear WGR614 54Mbps Wireless Router (obwgr614_1)
I have a windows XP sp2 pc and a PS3 both connected by ethernet cable to the netgear wireless router. And i have a Nokia N81 and a laptop connecting to it wirelessly.
When I try connecting to the Broadband internet with ONLY a modem via a PPPoE connection, the connection is perfect. But after the installation of the router using the given CD and setting all options using www.routerlogin.com, wired or wireless connections through the router take ages to load and finally doesnt even connect. The internet explorer says 'website found, wating for reply' at its bottom left and keeps loading. But in the end there is no connection to the site. The only site that properly connects with a successful login is Gmail.Yahoo mail and Orkut take ages to load when it comes to logging in.Other sites dont even load.Downloading of files is alos not possible
When tryin to connect wirelessly with 3rd party softwares/application through my N81 like Opera mini,Symtorrent,Talkonaut, they connect fine. But downloading a file on opera mini does not proceed.Mobbler..a last fm app...connects fine but playing a station is impossible for unknown reasons.Browsing through te in built s60 browser is also not possible.Updating the firmware of application like X-plore is not possible.CorePlayer does not stream/load/play youtube videos.
My ps3 was connected with an ethernet cable to the router and it was setup automatically just by altering the network connections the 'easy' way.Connecting to the PSN is very slow.Havent played online after connecting the router but I do not want problems to occur.
I am new to the wireless router stuff and i do not understand the funtion or meaning of most of the acronyms like DNS, DHCP, PPPoE etc.
Help ASAP will be appreciated.
First of all.... undo what you did from routerlogin.com
install your cd again and this time give your router vanilla settings like....
192.168.1.1 for its ip address
dhcp on (this will assign all devices on your subnet an ip address)
choose a wireless passkey
if you are using pppoe, indicate that in setup and you will need to enter a password.
what broadband system are you using?? (cablevision, comcast, etc.)
Are you positive you are on PPPoe ??
Go back to your ps3 after setting all of this up and reestablish your network connection.. let it take the ip from your dhcp server (in your router)
Also which model router are you using?
I suggest rebooting your cable/dsl modem as well.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
