Question about Apple Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I recently bought some DVDs from Amazon and neither of the iMacs nor the PowerBook would play them. Just spat them out. I tried setting the DVD player to ignore the DVD, but got the same thing happening and also when I set it to open DVDs with VLC. I'm running MacOS 10.5.7. The DVD player is listed as ''OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5670S'' I know this is a ''region'' problem, but what is the best way to handle it? Yours sincerely, John Davis johninsapporo@mac.com

This solution isn't a solution because I can't get the DVD to stay in the computer. It just gobs it out. If I could get it to stay there, I could convert it with Toast or Handbrake. I've changed the settings in System Preferences to ignore the DVD but it doesn't and to open with Toast or Handbrake which something over rides.

If you really can give me a workable solution, I don't mind pay for it, it's just that, what you've said so far has actually been useless, not somewhat useful as your happy optimist rates it.

    Yours sincerely,

    John Davis

Hi, I bought this LG RC897T 2 years ago and have only used the DVD player about 60 times. I've bought original "US" TV Box set dvds and Chinese knock-offs, and wrote my own dvds and they all...

Hello Mark. Most likely your player is regionalized and not compatable ith those DVD's that won't play. To eliminate the regional setting on your player go to this link http://www.wisebread.com/make-your-dvd-player-region-free-in-seconds

It contains the step by step instructions on how to make your player region free. It also has an how to video and a full explanation of why the regionalization was installed in the first place. Joe

Thanks for choosing Fixya!

DVD player skips audio and/or frames

PowerBook G4 is at least a five-year-old machine at this point. A DVD drive can **** in lots of dust in five years. Try hooking up to an external DVD drive. If it plays the same discs with no problem, you need a cleaning or replacement. Frankly, an external DVD drive is cheaper than replacing your internal drive.

My imac g4 isn't reading the dvd/cd drive at all

it won't read it because the new os disk is double layered and the g4 drive you have probably won't read double layered dvds.  best solution is to buy or borrow an usb external dvd drive.  i did this last week and it worked fine.
