I have 4 voice speakers on my car plugged in to an amp but when i turn on a little gain on the amplifier the speakers make a noise when the volume is all the way down

Ground loops and engine whine cause common problems such as a high-pitched whine that varies with engine RPM's, various thumps while changing tracks, turn on/off thumps, etc.

There are various protective measures to take in order to decrease the likelihood of experiencing engine whine and ground loops.

  • Shielded RCA's
    A good pair of shielded RCA's may be the easiest way to avoid engine noise. Don't use patch cables or other el-cheap-o RCA's that are unshielded. I'm not saying you need to invest a small fortune in RCA cables, just make sure they are shielded.
  • Proper head unit ground
    This is perhaps the most common source of engine noise. Many times factory head unit grounds are poor. Relocating the ground wire or adding to the existing one will help reduce or eliminate ground loops.
  • Proper amplifier ground
    If none of the above have worked, check the ground for the amplifier. Make sure it is grounded to the frame, battery, or other substantial metal surface. Make sure the metal is good 'ol fashioned detroit iron. Many cars use metallic alloys or composites that aren't very conductive. Avoid those at all costs.
  • Wire routing
    Some claim this next fix is BS, and others swear by their grave that it works. But run your RCA's and power wires at least 18" apart. I route my RCA's on one side of the car, and power on the other. Couldn't hurt.
  • Grounding the RCA's on the head unit
    Many have had problems with Pioneer head units because of a poor internal RCA ground. To remedy this, simply wrap wire around the RCA's and screw the wire down to the head unit's chassis or another good ground.
Please note: While ground loop isolators are tempting to use as a quick fix, I generally don't advise people to use them because they simply cover up the problem instead of solving it. Only use ground loop isolators as a final resort is none of the above fixes work.

Younhave a bad groun. A ground wire should be same size as power (gage) wire and NO longer than 1 foot.

Speakers cutting in and out at high volume


The amp is going into protect on the two channels powering the speakers. Turn down the gain on those two channels. You also may want to consider crossing over the speakers a little higher than they are now.

The rating on those speakers are way too high. 6.5's and 6x9's will take 50-100 clean watts tops before they start to break up.

The best solution to get it perfect is....unplug the subs. Turn the gain on the speaker channels all the way down. Then turn up the deck 80% as high as it will go. Play a song. Then increase the gain on the amp until the speakers are as load as they go without distortion. Shut off the car, replugg in the subs and do the same thing. Gain on sub channels all the way down, deck then to 80%, find a bass heavy song, then turn gain up until subs become distorted. If you do this procedure your speakers and subs will be "gain matched" to the proper levels.

This problem is due to over powering the speaker. Amps have built in protection for both themselves and the speakers they are connected to. If you have the gain turned up too far on the amp, it can cause the amp to go into protection mode which will turn the amp off temporarily. You have probably noticed the speakers make odd noises or sound awful just before the amp turns off. Other issues may be that you have a bad ground connection to the amp. Check this connection at the amp and at the location the amp is grounded to. Follow the "-" or "GND" cable from the amp. if that connection is good, just turn down the "gain" dial on the amp about 1/4 and turn up the volume and see what happens.

Ok, I have a pair of infinity dual voice coil 12" subs, and a pair of audiobahn quad voice coil 12" subs. Boths sets of speakers can handle 450w. Which set of 12's would be best to hook up to this amp, and...


i recomend you just use the best single woofer in a well built box and that will give you better sound at lower gain volumes it sounds like you have too much junk laying around but to get good bass run your sub at 2 ohms if the amp is stable at that impedence

My pyle amp keeps going into protection when i turn my music up and play it for a min


The most common cause is an unsafe load/speaker impedance. If you have the speakers wired correctly, you may have a short in the wiring. If the wiring is OK, the amp is likely defective

Alpine mrd m500 amp is not pushing my 12 in infinity sub


If you have a dual voice coil sub, make sure that you have the positive and negative terminals connected properly. If you have ONE of the coils wired backwards, it will cause the speaker to produce little or no sound.

Have you set the gains properly?

Are you sure the amplifier is receiving a strong signal from the head unit?

Have you tried it with a different speaker?

Dual voice coil speakers


best way to do this to preserve your amp and speaker is to wire the speaker Voice coils in series.

VC1 = Voice coil 1

AMP + to VC1 +
VC1 - to VC2 +
VC2 - to Amp -

Set you amps bass gain down very low. Crank up the volume with a bass test audio track. Turn the switch to LPF or Low pass filter. Adjust a LPF to about 60 hz Adjust the bass gain up until your Sub begins to sound sitorted or choppy. Then tune the bass gain just below where it distorts. Then you are set.

Tune the gain on your amplifier powering the sub. Turn the Bass Gain on the amp all the way down and crank up your system to as loud as you can stand. Adjust the bass Gain until the Speaker begins to distort, then back off a little bit. This way you can crank it up and not get Bass Distortion early.

Amp going into protect mode


If you set the gain too high on the AMP, at loud volume levels some clipping or distortion of the output signal will occur. Most amps have a Circuit inside that detects this clipping or distortion and applies protection to prevent damage to the speakers and the amp. It would help to know if you are driving the speakers with a Line level output or using the speaker output from your deck. There are many things that can cause an amp to go into protect mode, and knowing a little more about your setup will help to solve the problem.

These subs are dual voice coil I'm sure...make sure they are putting a 2 ohm load on the amp total, and also set your gain and frequency setting right. Set the frequency around 85 or 90, make sure the lo pass filter is on. Turn the gain ALL the way down and turn your stereo to the point right before your speakers distort....then slowly increase the gain until the subs are playing at full volume. This should not even be close to all the way up, and the subs should sound accurate and bold. Turning them past this point will cause distortion, in which case you should back off the gain a bit. Distortion causes power to cycle through the amp very rapidly and can cause blown subs and blown fuses. If you do not know how to wire both subs for a combined load of 2 ohms, please let me know what type of subs you have.
