Sounds like a bad capacitor its a little shiny can that is usually oval or round this gives it a kick start check the mfd rating (probably 3,4,5 mfd) and voltage (370 or 440) and replace the capacitor they are fairly inexspensive

Coleman Mach ac with airxcel thermostat will only turn on in high cool mode.Thermostat wont turn on in fan mode low or high. And wont turn on in auto mode low/highcool. Here humming in low/high auto.

If you are hearing humming from the motor itself, replace the capacitor. Should only cost you $10-20.

To rule out a faulty thermostat perform a jump test on the control board. There's a lot of videos and tutorials online for performing a jump test. I attached one of them for your reference, however with the humming, I am inclined to believe it is a faulty capacitor.

The AC makes a humming sound when starting the fan. If I spin it by hand it runs. Model 620315.321 serial 90716722.

The humming sound is the motor trying to start, if you turn it by hand, usually they will run. it sounds like the motor for fan needs cleaning and oiling. God-Bless ya all!

Found a used Home Master KFF6 Drill Press; thought I scored big when I got it for $50. Motor hums, spindle and chuck don't turn. Can I troubleshoot and fix myself, or can I get it repaired in CT?

The humming motor is that it could not get a turn direction because of only ac and a bad centrifugal or start capacitor if it hums try to turn it clockwise on the chuck to see if it will run .

Dometic duo-therm rooftop ac unit motor wont spin unless i jiggle the wires that go into the motor then it works! Trailer sat in a monsooon storm last night. next morning compressor kicks on just fine and...

If you have to jiggle the wires going into the compressor motor to get it going, I would submit that you may very well have a broken wire or otherwise loose connection that is making contact when you jiggle the wires. If all appropriate connections were good, jiggling the wires would/should have no effect. I assume you are jiggling wires AT THE MOTOR input and not elsewhere in the circuitry. After you jiggle the wires and get it started, does it continue to run? or if not, describe more thoroughly what is happening..

The Maytag Neptune dryer motor hums but does not start the drum turning. The belt is good.

The motor bearings or drum bearings may be seized or the motor starter circuit is bad. Can you manually rotate the drum? If so, that probably eliminates any seized bearings. Try rotating the drum while the motor hums. If that allows the motor to run, then the starter circuit is defective. Unless the motor has an external start capacitor, the motor will likely have to be replaced.

Ruud Achiever 10, outside Fan wont spin unless I help it.

The part you are talking about is called a capacitor. They come in various voltages and ratings. The best thing to do would be to find the rating tag on the motor, and look for the capacitor rating. There are many, many different sizes and types, so it is best to consult a proffesional before attempting to replace it on your own.

Ac fan not turning on I can ''stick start it'' but which direction?

The condensor fan should be sucking air from the top and blowing it through the coils, probably a counter clockwise direction. The buzzing/humming sound is confusing to me. A humming sound sounds like a motor that can not turn over to start. A starting capacity would be needed. Just because you changed it out last year does not mean it is good. A buzzing sound sounds like a contactor problem. Contactors buzz and after a while, they will fail. In any case, you can "stick start" the condensor fan PROVIDED you are sure the ac compressor is working (this is for a short and temporary use). Also, you may have a high load duty capacitor that assists in the unit running. This will affect your condensor fan operation if it is not good. Unless you know all the components and operations of ac electrical, I would highly recommend calling out a professional.
