Question about Refrigerators

2 Answers

Hello, I own an Admiral Refrigerator (Admiral Ultima 2000) and the evaporator motor occassionally squeals. If I turn off the refrigerator for a while and turn it back on a few hours later, the fan will run for about a half hour before it starts to squeal again. I removed the back cover of the freezer compartment and you can see that the fan stops turning when it squeals. Can you please assist me in diagnosing what the problem is. Thanks

Thank you. The odd thing is that several weeks ago the bottom part of the freezer compartment was freezing meat quite well (but if you left meat on the top portion it didn't seem to freeze as well) and the refrigerator wasn't working working well at all (i.e. refrigerator wasn't cold). Moreover the evaporator fan in the freezer compartment didn't seem to be working.

Well a week or so ago the fan stating working and both the refrigerator and freezer seem to work fine when left on, except that the fan squeals and stops when hot. (Note, the fan does not come to a complete dead stop but stops for a few seconds here and starts again, stops for a few seconds, starts again etc). Does your diagnosis change in light of this?

    Thank you again

Motor bearings are more than likely going out. The fan spins until the bearings heat up. Suggest you replace motor take model and serial number to get part at the appliance parts house Good Luck

The squealing is where the diagnosis comes from. Usually when a motor starts to squeal thatr means lack of lubrication in eithr bearings or the windings are going bad. Whether or not the fan cycles intermittenly is not the reason for the diagnosis. The fan may very well be designed for the off/on cycle if the unit calls for this, however, the squealing is the key for me anyway. Good Luck

I have maytag MTB2156GEQ. The freezer works fine, but not refrigerator. I also noticed that the evaporator fan on back of freezer did not work. I tried to remove the fan out, but I have difficult to remove the panel in front of the fan. Would you please kindly give me the instruction how to replace or check evaporator fan.

Admiral side by side refrigerator model GS 22X8D3 FRIDGE SECTION HAS A POOR COOLING PERFORMANCE, WHEREAS THE FREEZER SECTION WORKS FINE. MOTOR DOES NOT CYCLE ALWAYS ON.

Greetings,

in most self defrosting refrigerators..when the fresh food is warm, but freezer is ok...the first thing to look at is...a frosted or froze over evaporator in freezer. this is because, the cold air comes from freezer into ff section. it comes in and drops to floor of ff and is drawn back into freezer thru coil and if its frozen,,,no air can circulate...remove rear freezer panel and look for ice blockage

There are several other things. A fan motor not coming on will do this.. a stuck closed baffle in ff section can keep air out. check it and if froze up..there is a reason, and you need to find out why or it will happen again...check heater, defrost thermostat, check defrost control

Moved refrig this morning and now it is not cooling... freezer works great

Hih, Check and see if something has stopped the condenser fan motor down by the compressor from turning. Sometimes this happens in a move.
Also make sure the controls didn't get turned to wrong settings. Make sure evaporator fan motor is working in freezer and that there is no frost building up on the rear panel.
Just some ideas to help you.
lease let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks

Freezer section evaporator fan motor bearing are going out. This would be indicted by a high pitched squealing noise. Have the fan motor replaced and it should solve your problem.

Side by side refrigerator

- Check your temperature setting.
- Check if no ice present in the evaporator, try the defrosting
- Check vents if air is present if no then check your blower if running or icing evaporator.
- Check your vents if not obstructed with stocks, or the unit is not overloaded with stocks.
- Check if compressor is running continues, if not then you need a qualified technician.

Whirlpool Refrigerator squealing in the freezer section

On the refrigerator, most likely it's one of the fans, If its coming from the back of the refer it would be the condensor fan. If it's coming from inside the freezer, it would be the evaporator fan.
