Yes, provided the outside portion of the a/c reaches through the waoo adequately to allow for the transferrance of heat to the outside.

Looking for replacement of Fedders model T1A10W7A (not sure if installed in a type a or b sleeve). Which model can I replace with?

I suggest that you measure the sleeve's dimensions and shop the a/c dealers. They should be able to match you up with something of comparable BTUs, but more efficient.

I have a 27 inch wall sleeve can a 26 inch friedrich unifit work?or do I need a 27 inch unit

the a/c units keep getting smaller, when unit replacement is slightly smaller , the extra space can be filled with a piece of plywood or rigid foam insulation with a thin layer of plywood, any edges seen from inside can be covered with trim, make sure the wood covers entire bottom layer of sleeve to properly support. or just find the larger unit if you can. hope this helps.

Is this the right unit? Can it be used with a sleeve?

If a sleeve came with it then it should be used unless you are replacing a unit and the existing sleeve is properly mounted. Then sleeve should have a slight backward angle so that condensation does not drain into the living space.

Through the wall vs. window installation

window mount doesn't have to extend out on the back to clear the side /top intake vents because a window is about 2" thick,
but a wall mount has to have about 6 to 8 " clearing before the intakes vents can be exposed. you can't have your intakes buried in the wall.
in short if you see about 8 " of dead metal in the center area (just behind the window sill) then you can mount it in a wall as it will protrude far enough to clear the side /top intakes.

a sleeve just gives you a way to balance / attach to the outside wall
