SOURCE: hi how do i fix brushes to a hotpoint wm52 washing

Remove lower rear cover of washer
Remove drive belt.
undo 2 bolts securing motor to drum.
Push motor away from you, it may be tight.
Unplug motor lead, noting which way it is plugged in.
Remove earth lead.
You will see the brushes at the rear end of the motor
There are several types of brushes fitted to these washers, it all depends on the type of motor you have, but all the brushes are readily available.
Reassemble in reverse order.
Please your comments.
Thanks
Barkencoa.

Hotpoint first edition WM52 Drum not turning. Checked belt and thats ok. Machine empties water ok. What is causing fault and is it worth repairing?

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

It does sound as if the motor requires replacement unless it is the control board not powering the motor.
Now, a word or two of advice from a retired Englishman in SW France. It might be suggested that just the brushes on the motor want changing; experience (of others) suggests that they may only last months rather than many years UNLESS the motor itself is refurbished. Refurbishment includes skimming the commutator on which the brushes run. Without skimming the brushes do not sit cleanly on the com, often causing excessive sparking and excessive wear on BOTH. Alternately a new motor! I changed the motor on our 19+ year-old Bosch at a cost of GBP250 ;-0(

Is it worth repairing? Sorry but that has to be your decision!

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

I have a Hotpoint WM52 that fills but will not spin / rinse

Check the brushes in the motor, and replace if less than 5mm or or so in length.
Please rate my solution.
Thanks.

Hotpoint first edition automatic washing machine washes clothes .

I've got a Hotpoint First Edition WM52 that stopped spinning at the end of the wash cycle. Called the repair man and he said it was most likely just the filter blocked? Suggested I reemove the front base panel and try to locate the filter remove, clean and replace. Front panel wouldn't come off, base panel at the rear, 6 screws to remove revealing a black squeezy hose with slide grips holding them on, on removal of the hose two ten pence pieces, a one pence piece and a childs hair clip blackened with dirt sat blocking the top of the hose.
Hope this helps; repair man saved me £58+vat just with a few words and a bit of persistence from myself

Hotpoint First Edition 1000 WM52 the turner thing for different washes is very hard to turn now, the machine seems to struggle.

Hi.

It sounds like the timer is stiff, remove top cover, and spray WD40 liberally over and into the timer unit at the front right of the m/c.

If the motor is struggling to turn then you have another problem as well.

Good luck.

I think you will find that if you check the brushes, you will probably need to replace them.
