Removing DVD-drive on Travelmate 230

I would like to remove the DVD-drive that was originally installed in the Travelmate 230 laptop, and install a DVD-RW drive instead that i got lying. But how do i remove the old drive without pulling the entire laptop apart, as the drive doesnt have one of those ''eject'' sliders under the bottom like the battery eg.

there are no such screw at the optical drive, all the screws got the icon for removing the cover of the laptop (a small arrow) the only screw that doesnt have that icon, is located on top of the cpu fan

At the back of the laptop you'll find screws. Search for one that has the symbol of an optical drive icon. This screw should be just above the optical drive. Unscrew it. Now insert a long pin into the pinhole in the drive's bezel (should be close to the eject button). Pull the tray gently beyond it's usual limit. If you had removed the exact screw, the drive will come out easily.

Hope this is helpful. If you need more assistance, comment back

Hi,
Eject the tray and turn the laptop off, close the lid and turn the laptop over.
take note of the positioning of the DVD and look for one screw that will be holding the DVD rom in place, once you have located the screw and removed it the DVD will just slide out of it's compartment and you will be ready to replace it.

Good luck.

MY QUESTION IS HOW DO I Disable the "SECURITY FREEZE LOCK" on my hitachi HTS54503289a300, 320 GB sata hard Drive? originally WAS INTALLED IN MY ACER TRAVELMATE LAPTOP NANUFACTURED IN 2012 BUT THE LAP

Maybe if you can format the disk-but you loose data, maybe there is a program that can do it, probably in linux, or bootable itself, maybe ask acer for master password or something, if you still own original laptop and it runs then try to remove disk encryption while the hdd is accessible with laptop (i think its in bios), otherwise the hdd may be unusable to prevent data theft. you can plug any sata hdd into any sata device if you can hook all the cables, no compatibility issues there. try googling and youtubing for more answers

How do I re-formatt the harddrive and re-install the operating system for an acer travelmate 4230-6704

Some questions need to be asked of you. Number one do you have the original cd's for the operating system that you have installed on your computer? Number two do you need to do a complete reinstall or just a fix? It a complete reinstall is required you need to have the driver cd's for all the components on your system. If you are running a newer operating system it may find them and install them automatically. Some drivers are not available to windows directory upon install and need to be installed from the original cd's. Once you know or have this information then you can proceed with he format and install procedure that the operating cd will walk you through when you place it and it auto runs in your cdrom or dvdrom drive. Best way is to place the cd in the tray of the dvd or cd rom drive and reboot the computer and then it should ask you to boot from the cdrom or dvdrom drive upon restart. Read the information that the cd asks you and follow the steps that it wants you to take and you should be ok. Hope this info helps you.

I have a Acer TravelMate 5720 Notebook and I need to remove the CD/DVD rom . How do I do that ?

there should be just one screw directly behind the dvd drive in the centre of it. you might have to remove the cover for the memory/cpu to get to it. remove that screw, start the laptop, eject the dvd, turn the laptop off and then gently pull the whole drive and it will slide out.

I need to know how to remove a DVD drive for a HP lap top.

If your HP Pavilion DV6000 series laptop computer has a bad DVD drive, use the following steps to replace the drive

Purchase a new DVD drive to replace the old HP drive. You can use any slim DVD drive with a 50-pin ATAPI IDE Interface Connector. You will probably want a DVD burner since the original drive was capable of burning DVDs. The drive I used to replace the HP drive is a LG Black IDE Super-multi Slim Notebook DVD Rewriter - OEM version.

Unplug the power cord from your HP laptop. Remove the laptop battery from the back of the computer. This will eliminate the chance of power damage to your computer

Ground yourself by touching a metal object or touch your screwdriver on the ground while touching part of the metal. Unscrew the DVD drive screw circled in the Step 2 photo. Using a small Phillips head screwdriver turn the screw counter-clockwise until it is completely loosened. You may need to flip the computer over to get the screw to fall out. Put the screw in a safe location for later.

Put a small pointed tip object (a paper clip will also work) into the drive release hole on the face of the DVD drive. Use the hole to pull the drive out from the laptop body.

Remove the mounting bracket from the old DVD drive. There are two small Phillips head screws that need to be removed by turning them counterclockwise. Match the bracket up with the holes on the side opposite of the connection port. Using the two screws you just removed, secure the mounting bracket to the new DVD drive by tightening them in the clockwise direction.
Remove the original HP DVD drive face plate from the old drive. It can be removed by working it back and forth to loosen the faceplate. Once it is loose you should be able to pull the faceplate off.

Do the same for the new drive. Once the DVD faceplate is off, match the tabs of the original HP faceplate up and press in until it clicks into place

The new drive is now ready to install into the HP DV6000 series laptop. There is no need to hook up IDE cables and power cables. The new drive can simply be slid into the HP laptop.

Find the screw from Step 3. Make sure the DVD drive is pressed in all the way. Install the small Phillips head screw in the back of the laptop and tighten by turning clockwise.

Hi, i have a program that requires driver support for direct x 9

The problem is your on board video on your laptop only supports directX 8 then DirectX 9 will not install or run on yor laptop. The directX software from microsoft will detect if you computer can run it or not. And being it is a laptop you cannot update the onboard video to support directX 9 or higher.

New Laptop

The laptop has an eRcovery partition the will restore it to original condition.

Acer eRecovery

At the Acer splash screen, you can press Alt and F10 (at the same time you would press F2 to enter the BIOS) to bring up a DOS style version of eRecovery.
· The unit is able to reload Windows from this mode faster then from CD.
· The password by default is 000000 (6 zeros) and it is displayed when you are asked for the password.
· Users are able to change the password in this mode for eRecovery only.
· The system can recover from the hidden image on the hard drive (PQService partition) or from CD/DVD media.
· It is possible to reload from the factory style CDs/DVD or the snapshots that the Windows version of eRecovery creates.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
