I have password protected files on Xp. I have a Vista OS now and don't know how or have forgotton how to password protect a file and a folder too. Cn you tell me the procedure for doing this?

  • Gerald Gier Jul 30, 2009

Funny I just installed FolderLock 6 a few hours before I got your message. It does look easy to use.
I back everything up on a large external drive. I use Everyday Automatic Backup. I also have a notebook that I transfer files to. The questions is.....How does Folder Lock work tor these situations? Can I just back it up and use it or do I need to install Folder Lock on the notebook too, etc

Oopsy ! I apologize for the mistake. I din't go through the entire post.Kindly give me a couple of minutes.

  • Sai Kiran Camsarapalli Jul 30, 2009

If you are using any other software other than the windows password protect then the other systems where the files needs to be opened must also have the software in it.

  • Sai Kiran Camsarapalli Jul 30, 2009

If you want to password protect using windows vista and not using any other software I may recommend you to try these steps

    1. CLOSE THE FILES OR FOLDER, IF OPEN. To password protect folders in VISTA, you should first close them. This is particularly true if you are setting password protection to an executable file (.exe) or a folder that contains an executable file (also called a program). If you are unsure of an executable file's status, press control+alt+delete to view all programs running.

    2. Step 2
LOCATE THE FILES OR FOLDERS YOU WISH TO PASSWORD PROTECT. Do NOT click to open the file or folder. You can find files or folders by using the "COMPUTER" tool in your Vista Start Menu.

    3. Step 3
RIGHT CLICK ON THE FILE OR FOLDER'S ICON. To access the option to password protect folders in VISTA, right click on the file or folder icon. Select "Properties", at the bottom of the resulting pop-up menu.

    4. Step 4
CLICK THE 'SECURITY' TAB IN POP-UP WINDOW. In the pop-up Properties menu, click the 'SECURITY' tab on the top right of the pop-up window.

    5. Step 5
CHANGE FOLDER PERMISSIONS. In the Security menu, you will see two white text boxes. The top box shows various users and user groups on your computer. Highlight the user group you wish to deny access to the program and click the "edit" button between the two boxes. You should now be able to add or deny access to the program for the selected user by clicking options in the bottom white text box. Edit the options for each user or user group you wish to deny access to. Click apply after editing for each user. When finished, click "OK". Next, click "OK" on the Security window to approve changes. You have locked the program down and users must now access your Vista user account by password to access the program. Once logged into your Windows Vista user account, you will not have to supply the password to access the file or folder.

    6. Step 6
TEST ~ To make sure you actually did lock Internet Explorer, try to open the program. Log out of your user account and log in as the user you have locked out of file or folder. If you are unable to locate the file or folder as the prohibited user, you did password protect folder in Vista.

    Kindly comment.

Download of windows vista ultimate crack

I've been seeing a lot of posts by folks that have misplaced the Product Key that came with their XP installation CD. You are not alone.

While supplying another would be a quick fix, it is also illegal. But that's not the end of it. There is a remedy.

Product keys can be replaced. Replacement is done solely through Microsoft. But Microsoft has miles of web pages to hunt through, finding the right place to do it can be daunting. Here's how to cut through the red tape, most of it anyhow:

Click here to bring up Microsoft's product replacement page.

Scroll down a few lines.
On the left side, under the second 'More Information' header, click on 'Replacement Product Key'.

This will walk you through the procedure. Follow the prompts. You'll be up and running in no time.

HOW TO INSTALL XP IN VISTA OS OF LAPTOP HP PAVILIION

Hi there.
The only way you can install XP on a Vista machine is to install "virtual XP" onto Vista using Virtual PC 2007.
Here is a site that will take you through the procedure step-by-step and gives links to download Virtual PC and install it onto the machine.
Please be aware that some drivers may not work whilst using XP when you have it installed.

I rebooted laptop and dont know password to get back on

Hii,
Assuming that this is a windows logon password (not a BIOS password): we have two more choices... either we might be using vista or an XP..
However if you are lucky enough to have XP you may try loggin using a guest or default admin account under safe mode (* by tapping F8 key when computer boots) and then change the password NOTE: even this procedure might require you to remember the password under change password screen and might sometimes be helpful., you can even try doing a system restore :) .
And if we use VISTA.. we might try the above procedure but it is seldom helpful. so we need to take help of other tools like Offline NT Password and Registory Editor.
If you use XP a simple googling might help to hack your password, for Vista you either need to reinstall it again or try third party tools as the one mentioned above.

About installation of xp on toshiba l310

I believe the manufacturer does not support nor recommend the downgrade from Vista to Xp since the necessary drivers may no longer be available at pcsupport.toshiba.com. To be sure about this, especially if your laptop is in warranty, please contact the manufacturer. Hope this helps. Thank you.
