Does it connect to the PC?

If so, you can format it thru My Computer>Device Name (IPOD)>Right Click and select FORMAT.

This will erase everything on the device and you can start over.

Best of Luck.

Can't see the music files.

Possible that it was not loaded with the required software fo Apple ipods--the itunes.
If so you must download this software from apples site -itunes download , install in your PC and convert the required media files to be transfered to the Ipod.
The seonc possiblity is that the files are corrupt , maybe a virus infection.
Connect Ipod and use you PC virus scan to check and quarantine.

How do I get out a virus on my ipod ?I plugged into my windows XP and had trojan detected and imediatedly unplugged my ipod and ran my avast virus protection,my freind put music on my ipod from his...

To get rid of the virus there are 2 ways.
First is to format the ipod whilst it is connected to the pc.
Second is to scan it with a good anti-virus like eset or kaspersky.
The free one are good, but most of the times they don't prove to be efficient.
You can also try to format it via disk management, but make sure the pc you are using is clean from virus and also have anti-virus on it with the latest update.
After that take precaution not connect it with infected pc.
If you need any other help, you are most welcome.

It is locked up

Maybe i shud start by explaining why most Ipods freeze or crash. When you unplug you ipod improperly this may and usually causes the itunes software to crush and stop functioning. The softwares corrupts and cant function. So you probably cant enjoy ua music.
With the viruses in your computer its easily to infect your ipod since ipod is a mass storage device also. Some viruses have a way of freezing the itunes software.

When it comes to restoring your ipod you need a computer that is not infected with viruses. you need to format your ipod if it cant be restored directly from the internet. After the ipod is completely formated which means you have done away with the viruses/all the songs you can restore it with itunes.

But there is also a way of recovering songs from your ipod before formating or restoring since if you format you get to loose all ua files without recovering them.

But the biggest problem is when your ipod is not even recognized by your computer. But if your computer can recognize your ipod as a mass storage even if its not syncing your music, there is a possibility restore it to normacy. The only rist is loosing all your data, but with an expert you dont have to loose anything.

If you come across any one of the above Error or Alert messages, then either your iPod/iTunes has gone corrupted and your iPod may be in for a crash or maybe you’re already facing an iPod crash. iPod might crash or get corrupt due to any of the reasons from hardware failure to corrupt iPod cache to damaged Files or to damaged disk structure.

You must be cautious and try to recover lost data from your iPod from reliable and proved software which is non-destructive and can recover all data—damaged or deleted. Any compromise can thwart your recovery process. Try Stellar Phoenix iPod Recovery Software.

30GB ipod not showing any content

If the data on the iPod wasn't corrupted\deleted by the virus, you can use a program such as poddox to transfer the songs you have on there. If it has been deleted or otherwise corrupted, you can try using an undeletion program such as FreeUndelete but the chances that you get the music off the iPod are slim. Don't you have the music saved on your PC?
