This fix should allow you to use MS Paint to Open and Save JPG files, and Open and Save GIF files. The quality of the saved GIF with MS Paint may be reduced because of the limited 256-color palette (See here for an explanation and workaround). A better alternative for opening and saving JPG and GIF files would be to download and install a great FREE image viewer called IrfanView (MS Paint is still better for individual pixel editing, so it's good to have both).
If you want to proceed with the MS Paint Fix, you should first do a search on your hard drive to see if you
have the jpegim32.flt and gifimp32.flt filters.
You can find those files here:
http://www3.sympatico.ca/one.human/files/Jpegim32.flt
http://www3.sympatico.ca/one.human/files/Gifimp32.flt
You need to make sure you have both filters in the following folders:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\grphflt
C:\Windows\MsApps\Grphflt
You may already have the JPEG Filter on your system, but only in one location. If that is the case, Copy and Paste it to the other location. Once you have the JPEG Filter in both locations, you may only need to do a simple Registry edit to be able to "Save As" a JPG.
If you already have the JPEG Graphics Filter on your system (and in both locations as stated above), but MS Paint still won't let you "Save As" JPG, you can manually edit the Registry to correct this. It's a simple fix. Go to Start, Run, type REGEDIT, and click OK. Go to this key by clicking the + signs beside the keys (folders):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Graphics Filters\Export\JPEG.
Click on the "JPEG" key (folder) in the left pane, and you'll see a String Value in the right pane with the name "Extensions". Make sure under the "Data" column it shows only "jpg". If it shows "jpg, jpeg", double-click on the "Extensions" string and from the "Value data" field remove "jpeg" so that it only reads "jpg" (without the quotes).
If it worked, this edit allows you to "Save As" JPG. If it didn't work, or if you want to be able to also open and save GIF files, read on.

Or use this reg file to export your files as jpeg

This problem may occur when the size of the EXIF-formatted picture is between 63,487 bytes and 65,535 bytes.

To work around this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Make a backup copy of the picture to prevent the loss of your picture.
  2. Open the picture in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. To do this, in Windows Explorer, right-click the picture, point to Open With, and then click Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.
  3. Click either Rotate Clockwise or Rotate Counterclockwise.
  4. If you are prompted to continue, click Yes.
  5. Click either Rotate Clockwise or Rotate Counterclockwise as many times as needed to rotate the picture 360 degrees.
  6. Click Copy To to save the changes to your picture.

On previoius Dell products ALT-PRNT SCREEN used to capture the active window this does not seem to be an option on the E4310. How do I capture an active window?

Check if you have to press the fn (function) key on your laptop before pressing Print Screen, you can tell if they are both the same blue color.

When you press ALT+Print Screen, you only capture the active window, when you click print screen you capture the entire screen. Then you will have to press CTRL+V on your keyboard to paste into paint. If you have windows Vista, you can capture screen shots much more easily using the Snipping Tool included with Vista.

Here's a How to guide to refresh: (Ref: http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/general/ht/winscreenshot.htm )
  1. Press the Print Screen key on your keyboard. It may be labeled [PrtScn].
  2. Open an image editing program, such as Microsoft Paint.
  3. Go to the Edit menu and choose Paste.
  4. If prompted to enlarge the image, choose Yes.
  5. Optional: Use your image editor's crop tool to crop out unnecessary portions of the screen shot.
  6. Go to the File Menu and choose Save As.
  7. Navigate to the folder where you want to save the image.
  8. Type a file name for the image.
  9. Select a file type.
  10. Click the Save button.
Tips:
  1. Hold the Alt key down while pressing Print Screen to capture only the active window.
  2. Generally the GIF format works best when saving screen shots of application windows. The JPEG format usually makes screen shots (especially those with text) blurry, blotchy and discolored.
  3. See related resources below for more screen shot tips and listings of screen capture software that offers many more options for capturing screens and portions of screens on Windows and Macintosh computers.
  4. The Windows "clipboard" is a term used to describe the temporary storage space in memory where an item is placed when you copy or cut. When you paste, the item is transferred to the program you're working in. If you copy something else, the old item is replaced with the new. You can't manipulate the clipboard directly; it's only used for copy and paste operations.
Good Luck

I'm using lenovo g450 and i need to use printscreen but when i press PrntScrn I Don't know if it's ok or it's not working but nothing happens.. but if it's working i don't know where the file stored in...

Hi,

If you press PRNTSCRN, nothing really happens. You need to paste it in paint in order to see the image. So you have to open Paint (located in Start/Programs/Accessories) and paste (CTRL+V) directly.

Hope it helps.

Thanks!

It's NOT really straightforward, but is doable.

Yes - the PrintScreen button is really mis-named.

You can find programs that do a far better job of capture screen images. Like this one.. http://www.etrusoft.com/

How to use print screen feature

njt46,

Print screen will take a screenshot of whatever you have showing on your computer (Minus the cursor), and save it to clipboard.

To use Print Screen:
Simply press the key labelled "PRT SC" or "PRINT SCREEN" (or, if you're using a laptop, you will often have to hold the "FN" key and then press the "PRT SC" or "PRINT SCREEN" key).

Then open your favorite image editing program (Windows comes loaded with MS Paint), click on "Edit" at the top, and select "Paste" (Windows 7 users can just click on "Paste" on the far left of the ribbon). Then, simply save the file, and you're good to go!

Hope this helps.

I'm tring to use a print screen to send out a report and I cant remember how to insert the print screen

The way I do it is to save the window image by pressing print screen and then pasting the saved image into Paintbrush. You can save it as a jpg instead of a bmp, if you like. Then you simply attach the saved image file to your email.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Printing on photo

Hi

Please scan the document in JPEG format and then take the printout, as TIFF format is suitable for text files and not images. After scanning, check whether the file is in JPEG format or not. If not then you can convert it into JPEG format by using MS Office picture manager or simply MS Paint.

Please do accept the solution and revert for further assistance.

How can I see a Microsoft Power Point slide show, size 3.30MB ?

Unless your picture frame supports Power point files you can't load it straight on to it, but you could try this.
  1. Open the powerpoint file in MS Powerpoint (or download the free powerpoint viewer)
  2. Use the Print Screen button (also marked PrtSc) to copy the screen to the clipboard
  3. Paste into a picture program (such as MS Paint, free with Windows)
  4. Save the files as a JPEG
  5. Load these onto the picture frame
Hope this helps
