Toshiba TV Model 29AZ8UN

I understand from the repairers that the TV has a timebase problem and the board DFS module MDFS01 requires replacement. Please advise where we can source this from. The TV was purchased in the UAE.

The cable connector has been broken off. is there any way of fixing this without replacing the entire board

With most tv's I've serviced, the cable connector is connected directly to the tuner module. The tuner module may be damaged beyond repair, depending upon how much physical force was applied to the cable connector. I would take it to a reputable repair shop and let them provide you a honest estimate of repair. They may be able to resolder the cable connector to the tuner module.

Where can I get a module and ic for a mitsubishi ws55807 projection tv?

If you are talking about convergence, this model uses 2 of the STK-392-570 convergence IC's which are located on the middle circuit board.

The board has not been available for a long time and one seller on Ebay has the chips at about 14 dollars for a pair.

Repair requires removal of the middle board and the chips are soldered in.

I do have start to finish, step by step instructions for this repair in this model; they tell you everything you will need and how to do the repair, I can post them here for you if you want them for free.

Considering that even if the board was available it was well over 100 exchange it is much cheaper and better to do it yourself.

Let me know if you have questions or concerns.

Picture is wavy then fine, happens every two minutes

This model like several others had problems with what is called a Hyper board inside which processes all signal inside the set.

From a Toshiba service bulletin:

No: PJTV200503 2 Pages Ref: WU032505
Product: Projection TV Date: 3/25/05
Models: 42H81,43HX71, 43H71, 50HX81, 50H71, 50H81, 53HX71, 53H71, 57HX81, 57H81, 61H71, 65HX81 AND 65H81
Product Safety Precautions:
Product Safety Precautions are described in the Toshiba service manual(s) for models covered in this bulletin. All safety precautions and checks shall be complied with before returning the equipment to the customer. Servicers who defeat safety features or fail to perform safety checks may-be liable for any resulting damages and may expose themselves and others to possible injury.
Application: The information contained in this bulletin applies only if you encounter the symptom(s) listed below.
Subject: MVPU13 Hyper Module Repair (23786198 / 23148017X)
Symptom: Multiple Symptoms may be experienced depending on which capacitor is faulty. The primary symptoms are jagged, digitized or pie crusting of the picture. The set may also be described with a poor sync condition.
Corrective Action: Remove the MVUP13 Hyper Module from the TV chassis, remove the top shield and replace the 10uf, 16v capacitors using Part Number 24619040 as shown in Figure 1. It's recommended that all of the capacitors identified in Figure 1 be replaced. (Note: These capacitors are low impedance surface mounted aluminum electrolytic capacitors. Care should be taken to avoid damaging the PCB while replacing these capacitors.)

There are several surface mounted capacitors that dry out with age and usually the problem starts out when first turned on and then eventually after on a long enough time the set works--the time will get longer as the problem gets worse.

The board is no longer available and only two options here: locate and replace all the selected caps which is not a do it yourself job or remove the board and send it out for rebuild.

Let me know if you need more info as I have seen dozens of these sets with this kind of problem.

Yes the dss module is very common to fail.
Unless you have proffesional soldering station & can work on ics whith 200 plus legs do not attempt to repair.
On ocaision if you moan to toshiba they will send A replacement module free of charge. I have had several come to our shop where Tosh has done this the module is just over £100.00 to buy.
All you need do then is pay to have it fitted saving over £100.00

Hope this helps

How old is this TV?
My experiance is to not put money into a TV that is over ten years old. TVs stress out their electronic components worse than almost any other electronic product. After 10 years, there are so many parts that are ready to fail that your are probably wasting your money trying to get any more life out of it.
Another option is to wholesale replace the main board from an outfit like Module Exchange at 972-298-1212
Be careful on buying a new one though. Often times, these new technology ones are much worse. Always Google the model number of the set you intend to buy and add the word 'repair' or 'complaint' to see if it is one of the many models that are customer service nightmares being produced by even the most reputable companies today.

Toshiba Picture Frame 2 36zp38 No picture

This fault is not something you can repair your self.
It is a problem with the DFS module normally dry joints but it is near imposible to do without specialist equipment.
So definately take to repair shop.
Do not attempt this repair.
Sorry for being bearer of bad news.

Remote controls will intermittently work

Hey, I would definitely recommend trying all the options mentioned above however sometimes it might never work correctly again (the remote control that is) and it might've been a defective remote control to begin with. Anyways, I had a few friends that have been in similar situations, and usually they won't even bother and went on the internet to find a replacement remote control. What they have done and probably what I would do if I was in that situation is head on over to a replacement remote control website like and look through their directories for that specific model Toshiba 32HFX72, and they should have what you are looking for in stock!

TOSHIBA Model: TV28C30 - No Vertical. Just flat horizontal line.

The vertical output IC is most likly bad or has a bad connection on it. Its a stand up IC witha metal heat sink and should start with an LA number. There ciould also be a problem with the B+ feed if you replace the IC and still get no vertical deflection. The parts would be in the sweep power supply and would start with the same first number thats printed on the printed circuit board, that is printed by the vertal sweep IC, meaning if the IC number on the board was IC412, then the B+ supply parts would start with 4 also ie r456, d456,c435 ect ect. The numbers I used are not the actuall numbers just used for referance. If you need a schematic one is available at for a download price of about 24 bucks. Remember though to always be safe and if you have no solid state repair experience, please consult a pro to assist you with this repair. Good Luck Please dont forget to rate this thread.

TV does not turn on

If you have no indication of power(no lights,no clicks) the main fuse is a good place to start but if he is blown and is black in color you will have a shorted component ahead in the circuit and if you replace the fuse it will blow up as soon as you plug the set in,in all honesty since you are not too familiar with tv service you should be safe and seek the assistance of a servicer.
