Toshiba TV Model 29AZ8UN

I understand from the repairers that the TV has a timebase problem and the board DFS module MDFS01 requires replacement. Please advise where we can source this from. The TV was purchased in the UAE.

From the symptoms you describe this souncs like what toshiba describles as the "hypermodule" problem. These sets had a problem with a cuircit board known as the "hypermodule" Now in the past it was common to replace this cuircit board.. trouble was they began to run out of theml so toshiba figured out that the board could be repaired rather than replaced... TO repair such a board is quite labor intensivel it involves replacing 11 very small micro components call capacitors. I have replace them a few timesl First problem you have is removing this board take time and effort.. secound problem is these parts are very VERy small. and even the most skilled techninians need a magnifer and a very steay hand; It can be repaired but the time and skill required dramaticly add to labor cost .. it cost on average around 400 takeing several hours to complete... Well at our shop it cost that.. it varies.. my only advice is if you find someone make sure they have experience repairing the hypermodule. willtab.jpg
this is the module. it is in a metal sheild stang vertically on main board. the tiny circles are called capacitors to fix 11 need is so easy to damage the board.... once damage replacements

I was told by repair shop that the hyper module on my Toshiba 53H71 has gone bad, and they were not available for unit to be repaired . Any help ?

there are a few shops that can physically repair these. I have personally repair a few. but is very very tricky... it requires some very trick soldering to some very small was replaceing so many of these they gave instruction on fixing these. it involves replacing 11 very small micro capacitors.... like i said very labor intensive. my shop generally charge 250 for the repair. just depend on who you get. WARNING this is the kind of repair that the technician can easly do more damage than good so get a respectable experince tech to facilate this repair

The most likely cause of a problem such as described is failure of the "Hyper Module"; this is one of the "stand-up" PCB's on the main signal PCB (which is the one on the right when viewed from back of set). These modules have a history of failure of the multiple electrolytic "surface-mount" capacitors; successful repair of hyper modules usually entails replacing all caps on the board, and often some solder repair as well...the degree of soldering expertise required to adequately service such products will usually preclude all but professional repair

I have a toshiba tv that power up the light on the power button stay red the model # is 57h83 couild you help me out chris

Maybe I can help. This symptom is caused by so many different failures inside the set. Most commonly, convergence chips go bad. Next, capacitors get weak in the power and sub power supplies. And finally, the hyper module eventually needs to be rebuilt by replacing all low value surface mount capacitors. All of these repairs will be needed on your set. All of these repairs require test equip and soldering / desoldering equip. In most cases you can have the set repaired for 200-350 and expect the high end of that range. If you attempt repairing it yourself, you can usually check for open pico fuses on the board, then disconnect the convergence yokes to see if set comes up temporairily. The best I can do is to inform you of your options and what to expect. Overall, it is a good, long lasting set and if it is repaired properly the first time, you should get at least ten more years from it. Well worth it in comparison to a new set that commonly requires an extended service plan just to get through the first five years. Good luck, Russmann.

This fault is not something you can repair your self.
It is a problem with the DFS module normally dry joints but it is near imposible to do without specialist equipment.
So definately take to repair shop.
Do not attempt this repair.
Sorry for being bearer of bad news.

If you have zagged lines there are 10 small surface mounted capacitors you will need to change on the HYper Board. This is not an easy repair so alot of folks simply replace the hyper board. You will need a service manual to take this set apart and to get the proper part number. If you have no TV repair experience or do not know how to solder, as the hyper board has sheild arounfd it, you should play it safe and call out a pro to assist you in this repair. Good Luck
