Depends on your particular machine. If it is computerized, oil ONLY as instructed in the owner's manual.

Mechanical machines need frequent oiling:

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

What type of grease do I use on my elna 305 sewing machine.

NO grease!!! Best option is to pick up sewing machine oil sold by Elna--make sure it is the oil recommended for your model. For a computerized machine, apply only as directed in the owner's manual. Computerized machines usually take a clear, thin oil whereas mechanical machines usually take a thicker, lemon-colored oil. To keep your machine purring, AVOID old or inexpensive sewing machine oil. If it is an older mechanical machine, a drop or two can be applied every place where metal rubs against metal--do NOT oil nylon gears, belts, etc.

How do I oil mysewing machine? It's a janome excel 5024

You don't oil this type of machine. It's not like an old one that needs oiled every two hours of sewing. You can place 1 drop of oil under the bobbin case in the center to the hook. (One drop of oil on the wick in the center of the magnetic ring.

Industrial sewing machine oil is usually not brand specific but is not interchangeable with automotive motor oil or thinner lubricants. Do not use WD40 or similar type lubricants as a substitute! Check with a local sewing machine repair shop or order online from Amazon.com (search for industrial sewing machine oil) This type of oil should cost less than $15 for 16 oz (before shipping)

How to oil

some machines have sealed bearings and need oil only on a few external moving parts .. most older machines need just about everything that moves oiled periodically .. we need a model number to tell which you have ... use only oil intended for sewing machines .. other types of oil might become gummy after a while and make a mess of the machine .. if you can open the machine to see inside .(usually the top comes off) .. then anything that moves not made of plastic gets a drop of oil .. there are usually several places under the machine that also get oiled .. in general if it moves oil it ... dont get oil inside the motor where the brushes are ... if your machine has sealed bearings then you dont have to and shouldnt oil them..
