Hi

The flashing blue light status indicates the system is in Over temperature condition. This problem is caused due to cooling fan failure/heat sink failure. You'll need to replace the cooling fan and/or heat sink.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

    Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. If this condition occurs frequently then read/write activity will stop and the drive will spin down. Disconnect and power down "My Book". Allow it to cool down for 1-2 hours then reconnect and power up the device again and check if it repeats.

If the light still blinks then you'll need to replace the cooling fan and/or heat sink.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

    Thanks

Hi there

Do you still have the older computer? If so, does it still work on that computer?

If not, in which USB port is the drive plugged into: front or rear of the computer case? If front, try the rear ports as they have more power.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks

Sounds like you may need to download Glary Utilities which is a free registry cleaner and pc optimizer.

The flashing blue is the stand-by mode, to remove this mode, hit any button, then go to start menu, control panel, then screen saver, power options, and change everything to never.
Hit apply and you should be good from there

It sounds like the enclosure has failed, if the unit was purchased in May it is still under full warranty for sure, give Western Digital a call and they can help you get the data off and replace it with a new unit. Their number is: 800-275-4932

if it is out of warranty, follow the steps on this site (or if you are not comfortable doing them have someone who is handy with computers do it)

Thanks

Hi, it could either be an issue with the drive case or the drive itself. If it does not work through the case then take out the drive and connect it manually to your computer and check if the compuer detects it.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

If you are on warranty you should contact your dealer or the company for repair help.

If your external drive has a powersupply or power adapter, if it is old, it might need to be replaced.

If the drive has been dropped it is most likely damaged and would need repair / replacement. Even a small drop can damage the drive.

I would suspect that either the USB cable or port is the problem. Change the USB port (On the Mac or on the WD MyBook (I don't know if it has more than one USB port) that the cable is connected to and see if that improves the situation, if it still happens change the USB cable. Hope this helps.

Notebook does not recognize My Book / Western Digital hard drive

Did it ever work?

Connect the MyBook to a different desktop computer.
If it is not recognized, then the MyBook definitely has a problem.
Exercise the warranty to get it repaired/replaced,
or check W.D.'s "Customer Loyalty" program -- buy a new W.D. drive through W.D.'s web-site, and get a discount.

Connected but not detected?

Hi, You need to run updates for your computer. Go to start, program, windows update, run and install all the updates, look especially for any update for hardware, select it and let it install. Leave the My book attached to the computer while searching for updates. Good luck.

My Western digital 1tb wont work inspite of drivers being instal

Mybook does not require any additional driver to work on systems from Win XP onward, same for recents Linux and MAC OS.
If the drive is not detected on more of one computer, then it is usually because of a fault.
Try a replacement cable (mybook uses Mini USB to USB, available at computer and at camera shops). If still no luck contact WD, mybooks have one year warranty. If you want to recover data, the disk must be mounted on a different enclosure, that service can be asked when discussing repair.

WD My Book Essential -- Can't find drivers

It should not really need drivers in Win2K or Vista, you might have a problem with your USB drivers. Go into device manager, remove any devices under the USB heading and reboot. All the drivers should reinstall and hopefully your MyBook will come alive again. Otherwise, try the MyBook on a friend's computer, if it doesn't work there then the MyBook may be faulty itself.

MyBook Fell Over, Now Not Showing As A Drive Letter

Well if your drive is 6 months old you might have a warranty of 1 year. You can make an online RMA request and tell them the drive doesn't work anymore. You don't have to say you dropped it. Just say it's heavily used and you can almost not live without.

But on the other hand if you tell the truth and want it fixed they can be reasonable and repair it for free. From my work and my private experience with WD they have good service. We sent alot of hdd's as RMA. For them is also good commercial if you tell other people about their service.

good luck. Just try to make a RMA. Nice drive by the way.
