SOURCE: crank shaft harmonic balencer bolt

THe Harmonic balanced bolt is loosened by turning it counter clockwise. It is recommended that you get the special tool to hold the harmonic pulley stationary while the bolt is loosened or tightened. However the bolt can be loosened if you use an impact socket and a very strong breaker bar and place it against a strong part of the frame and just bump the engine over very carefully with the high voltage coil wire disconnected so that the engine won't start when you bump it over with the starter and make sure the socket and the breaker bar are very secure when doing this. I recently bought the special Honda wrench from Snap-On tools and it works great for this, but it's very expensive but it's the only way to hold the Harmonic Pulley sufficiently in order to tighten it back to the recommended torque. Which can be several hundred ft pounds, see the service manual for the exact torque.

Harmonic balancer bolt on 2001 impala

Looking at the front of the engine, the harmonic balancer turns clockwise when running. You will need to turn the bolt anti clockwise as it is a normal right hand thread.

Need to replace the harmonic balancer in a 1994 isuzu rodeo. ( rwd, 3.2 ltr v.6 ). no success so far. is the main bolt reverse threaded? so far i have been attempting to turn it toward the passenger side,...

No, the bolt is not left handed. You do need to turn it counter-clockwise to loosen it. You're probably just spinning the engine when trying to loosen it. I use a 6" c-clamp and attach it behind the balancer in a way that the threaded shaft can lodge up against something so the engine can't turn. Then I use a 3 lb rubber mallet and hit the 1/2" drive rachet on the handle, or put a breaker bar on the end of it and work it loose that way. Once you get the bolt off, you will need to use a pulley puller to get the balancer off.

I have this 1999 Ford Taurus 3.0 L and im trying to get the crank pully off. I have used a 30mm socket, with a impact gun to try and get it off but it wont budge. Is there any trick to get this off? Please...

Whoa....
The crank pulley? Is that the large pulley at the bottom of the motor?
Also known as the "harmonic balance"?
Don't pull that one off unless you really have to... it can't be replaced since it is balanced to that particular engine...
If you have to remove it, you must replace it exactly correctly ...

The bolt is a left-hand bolt....
Turn the bolt clockwise to remove....
(not counter-clockwise like typical bolts).

Hope this helps!
