My CDR-2000 won't open unless there is a disk in the drive already....What can I do to fix the problem???

Why doesn't the reset button work anymore? And what does the playmode, source, finalize,menu, back, and select buttons below the screen do exactly?

And what does the up and down underneath the right drive do?

Had a similar thing - the belt running from the tray motor to the gears is worn. It can't grip the spindle to open the tray unless there is a disc in the tray. Change this and it will open no problem.
