Have you tried a "backdoor password? Friend of mine used alpha-numeric made up password "r08bv416" it worked for him.
Have you tried entering no password at all?
If you can boot the computer, you may be able to reset the BIOS password using Acer eSettings Management.

  • Click the Start button
  • Click the All Programs menu item
  • Click the Empowering Technology menu item
  • Click the Acer eSettings Management menu item
  • Once inside Acer eSettings Management, click the Security button.

Dear Friend,

To reset the bios you must clear the CMOS

There are two ways to approach forcing the Bios/CMOS to be reset to its default values: Option #1: Mechanically, by removing all power to the Bios/CMOS thereby forcing it to reset itself to its stored defaults, which include no password or the default password employed by the Bios manufacturer, and Option #2: Using a program to either locate and identify the password and reveal it to you or erasing the password entirely. These are referred to as password by-pass utilities or cracks.

Let's look at Option #1
By either resetting a jumper on the motherboard itself (referred to as a "clear CMOS" jumper), or by physically remove the power from the computer (disconnecting the power plug) and then removing a battery (used to maintain power to the PROM chip that contains the Bios/CMOS information) from the motherboard.

If the "Clear CMOS" jumpers are not present or not available:
Shut down the computer and disconnect the power plug. Locate, if possible, the instruction booklet for your motherboard. Now identify where the battery is located on the motherboard. It will be approximately 1/2 inch in diameter.Leave the battery our of the computer for about 20 to 30 minutes and then return it to its socket. Now plug the power cord back in and restart the computer.

    Dear Sir,

Here is the hint for Find out the CMOS battery, to reset the BIOS

    1. Turn off the system.

    2. Remove the main battery.

    3. Remove the backup (CMOS) battery. The CMOS battery is usually located under the keyboard or next to the memory modules in most systems. See the owner's or service manual to determine the exact location in a given system.

    4. Turn the system on and wait until the POST ends. After the POST ends, no password prompt should appear, indicating that the POP has been removed.

    5. Power the system off and then reinstall the backup (CMOS) and main batteries.

Which operating system ???
CMOS (Complementary metal oxide semiconductor) refers to the battery-powered, semi-conductor chip located on an HP computer's motherboard.
It is where the BIOS stores important information regarding the PC's system configuration. CMOS is required for an HP laptop and its hardware to run stably.

Sometimes, however, it is necessary to clear CMOS, such as if you lose your BIOS password or your BIOS is corrupted.
Clearing CMOS on HP laptops varies depending upon the model, but for a lot of laptops, the process simply requires removing the battery for a short period of time.
Power down your HP laptop. Remove the AC adapter and any other peripheral devices. Turn over the computer so that the bottom side is facing up.
Ground yourself, either by touching a piece of unpainted metal or by wearing an anti-static wrist-strap.

Locate the battery. This will vary depending on your laptop's model, but it is usually located on the back, near the rear of the laptop.
Review your laptop's documentation to find the battery, if needed.
Many newer models require that you remove the battery by releasing or holding down one or two latches, then gently pulling the battery out.
Some models may instead require that you unscrew the battery from its compartment.

Leave the battery out of the compartment for at least 30 minutes.
Do not attempt to turn on the computer and do not touch the battery within that time.
Some HP laptops may require you leave out the battery longer to clear CMOS, others might take only 10 to 15 minutes to reset.
Ground yourself, then put the battery back into the HP laptop.
Snap the battery latch into place or screw the cover back on, if necessary.

Disable Fingerprint on an HP Laptop
Many HP laptops include a fingerprint scanner to enhance the security of your computer.
When the fingerprint scanner is enabled, the computer requires a fingerprint scan to log onto Windows.
Disable the fingerprint scanner if you do not need or want this feature.
With the fingerprint scanner disabled, you can log on to Windows using a password.
You can enable the fingerprint scanner anytime you need to.
Access the Device Manager on your computer.
Select "Control Panel" from your computer's Start menu.
Click "Hardware and Sound" and then click "Device Manager."

Find "Personal identification devices" in the "Device Manager" list.
Click the "+" sign next to "Personal identification devices."
This opens a list of all of your devices.
Click on "Validity Sensor."
Select the "Driver" tab at the top of the properties window and click "Disable" to disable your fingerprint scanner.
The button changes to "Enable" and you can enable the fingerprint scanner at any time.
Click "OK" to exit out of the window.

I have an acer travelmate 7730g. I turned off the fingerprint securlty and am now presented with a password request before anything boots up. The thing is I don't remember ever setting this password...

I ran into the same issue with a bios password The laptop is a newer Acer TravelMate and I was able to remove the password. Remove the hardrive first. Then remove the memory and unplug the black and red wires from the battery about 2 inches away wait a then plug it back in. With the harddrive out still I turned the computer back on and then back off, put the harddrive back in.

You will end up clearing the bios settings including the fingerprint readers settings.

Hello Sir :-) You are probably tired of qustions about Acer Travelmate 7730G problems :-) I have the same Q. as the other persons on FixYa. I also turned off the fingerprint securlty and am now...

It is probably asking for the account password for Windows. If you had previously set a password, then it's asking for it. If you did not, then just press enter with no password.

Acer 5720 fingerprint reader

The Acer Bio-Protection fingerprint solution basically lets your network and data be secure by verifying an individual's true identity. The integrated biometric fingerprint reader supports Pre-Boot Authentication for secure authentication during system power on even before the operating system starts which means Windows shall authorize you to Log-in on just a mere touch, without the need of typing in passwords.

Look on the task bar next to your system clock and you will see a "key" icon. Double click on that icon and have at it. If for some reason the Icon is not visible, look in the bag of CD's provided by Acer, there ought to be a utility inside.. :-)
