Does the arm move freely if you remove the lower basket and spin by hand? If not, remove the arm and make sure there is no food or stringy objects around the lip. If it does then you'll need to check for blockages I the manifold (the pipework that connects the arm to the wash pump

SOURCE: dishwasher does not clean properly

sewnice, you might have to dig a little deeper to correct the problem. As long as you can spin the spray arm with your hand and it's not split it should be ok. Your chopper screen might be plugged. You will have to remove the lower spray arm and filter cover. These are torq screws. The accumulator assy. turns to the right to unlock and will lift off. It will take some pressue to snap it off the rear fill tube. Now you will be looking down at the cover that protects the chopper and screen. There is one torq screw holding it down. Remove the screw and lift it off. See if the screen is clogged. If it is, it will prevent the pump from sending water to the upper spray arm in force. Catriver..post back

SOURCE: I replaced the spray arm seal, but the arm still wont spin.

arms should turn freely. spray arms are only rotated by water spraying out from angled jets at end. check for blockage in spray arms - sweet corn and rice are the worst offenders. take spray arms off and run water in centre hole and see it runs out of all the jets freely

SOURCE: small plastic top and mid spray arm do not turn, bottom does

decrete, you want to get down to the chopper and screen. If the screen is plugged up with gunk there won't be enough pressure to reach the top spray arms. Check out the posted pics. Remove the lower spray arm. Rotate the rear feed arm to the right until it unsnaps from the tube going up the back. See the 4 torq screws holding the filter on. Remove them. Lift the filter up. Now you will see the chopper inlet cover. 1 torq screw holding it in. Lift it up and there's the chopper and screen. Catriver..post back

SOURCE: Lower spray arm does not spin on my bosch dishwasher

The quality/quantity of responses you get here on FixYa can greatly vary for WHEN you place your question.

There are a handfull of "experts" who use fixya that simply have a generic cut and paste answer for every question asked on FixYa.

"Final Answer" is one.

Many have little to no english skills, and resort to cutting and pasting the same answer to every question.

I apologize for their ignorance and im sure your post will soon be answered by knowledgeable QUALIFIED personnel.

Real answers are not automated here - I assure you. Give it a little time for our experts in the US to wake up and get coffee into their system.

We are not employed by FixYa - sitting in a little cubicle waiting to answer questions. Most of FixYa experts do this in their spare time between real service calls.

Be assured that if you are not satisfied - it is easy to request a refund. Please email [email protected] if in the next day or so you have not gotten a fix to your problem.

Now that's out of my system I can try to help troubleshoot your problem.

Bosch dishwashers use a water system called FLOW CONTROL... which utilizes a valving system to control which arm gets water during the cycles.

Most washers see water at both arms all the time. Yours is controled with a PLC and uses information gathered from onboard sensors to tell the valves to open or close.

Your Lower sprayarm valve is faulty, or the controller board is bad.

Since we do not know your mechanical/troubleshooting skillset - all we can do is offer advice and try and help you if you feel this is a problem you would rather attempt to tackle yourself.

I have searched BOSCH website and could not find your model washer in their documentation. Please double check that it is SHV55M03GB/40 that you posted.

SOURCE: dishwasher not washing dishes properly

Thanks akubra_lands, it worked for me too on model DW28W. I thought I should elaborate on your answer for anyone else who comes across this while researching the same problem.
The repair is ridiculously simple (takes about 10min) and the only tools needed are 1 philips/posidrive screwdriver and 1 flat blade screwdriver. Assuming you've unplugged it from mains power:

  1. Tip the dishwasher on its right hand side (looking from the front).
  2. Remove 4 screws from the metal base - 2 front and 2 rear (the rear ones have anti-rattle washers on them).
  3. Pull the base away, taking care of the pair of wires leading to the flood indicator float switch which is still attached to the base.
  4. Remove all 4 screws which fasten the solenoid valve to the pipe which leads from the pump upwards to the center of the tank (which feeds the lower spray arm).
  5. Pull the solenoid/valve body off the pipe and you will see it has a whitish plastic flap with a hinge at the top end.
  6. Use the flat blade screwdriver to gently prize open one side of the flap hinge and twist the flap until it is completely free of the valve body. Put the flap to one side.
  7. Replace the valve body, without the flap, and secure all 4 screws.
  8. Reassemble the dishwasher. Done
Now take a moment to admire the handiwork of the engineer who planned the failure of that innocent little plastic flap around 6 months after the expiry of the warranty.
I actually had a repair man come and look at the problem, and yep, right on cue, he told me it needed a new pump motor. $300. When he realised I was on to him he just gave up. So hard for repair people to do an honest day's work these days..

Its not the easiest thing to do but your probably right if theres a noise problem the biggest suspect is inside your motor and pump assembly. I'll explain how to do it in the following steps:

1. Remove the bottom rack.Should just slide all the way out
2. Remove the bottom spray arm by holding on to the nut and spinning the spray arm counter-clock wise.Remove when loose.
3. Look at the tube that extends to the top spray arm. You should see the tube clipped in in the middle. Remove it from the clip
3. Remove tube connecting from the bottom tube to the middle tube by spinning the bottom tub and lefting up the latch that connects the two simultaneously. Remove bottom tube.
4. Remove the shaft with nut piece on top that was connected to the top spray arm. It should be loose and you should be able to just pull it out
5. Now you will see several screaws that should now be exposed. You will need a torque screaw driver to remove all of them. Proceed to do so.
6. Now remove the top cover that should now be loose.
7. The inside of the motor and pump assembly should be exposed by now and you should see if there are any obstructions that was causing any noise.
8. If none located proceed to remove any other parts held down by torque screaws (this should be easy to do since they are all simply just lids covering different parts of the motor and pump assembly that can be removed by removing the screaws)
9. Remove these pieces until the grinder blade is expose. There you should locate any obstructions that are causing any noise
10. To reassemble simply follow steps 1-9 in reverse

Let me know if this works

The top two water water arms do not spin

These spray arm will only get water several times in the wash and rinse cycle. They do not turn at the same time the lower (bottom large spray arm under the bottom rack).
There is a chamber that diverts water either to the bottom sprayer or to the top sprayers, not to both at the same time.
If your top spray arms never get water, then there must be an issue with that chamber motor to divert the water. A new sump assembly that has all the new parts.
Good luck.

Bottom rack cleans fine, top rack doesn't clean at all - can I take apart the top spray arm?

yes, the spray arm can be removed and cleaned out.

Also, clean the 3rd (very top spray area) located attached to the top of the dishwasher. You want to make sure this small (1 inch size) piece can spin freely, so water can rinse the upper rack items.

I have a Frigidaire Ultra Quiet Plus dishwasher. The top spray arm isn't spinning during wash. The bottom spins fine and I can spin the top freely by hand. It appears there is not enough water pressure...

I may have the answer. I had what sounded to be the same problem. I found the dishes were dirty after they were cleaned, but I found there may have been a big pot lid blocking the upper arm. I decided to run the machine again, and after a bit opened the dishwasher after to make sure it was not a problem with the arm. Sure enough, the arm wasn't moving. However, I found out on the Frigidaire webpage that some models have an alternating spray cycle, where only one arm spins at any given time. After reading this I checked again, and it had moved by that time. I checked a few times more to confirm this. So it ended up it was an arm blockage after all. Hope this helped...good luck.

Top arm not spinning

only the top rack isnt getting clean?
there is a little plastic circle in the middle of the bottom of the upper spray arm. turn it counter clock wise to pull the upper spray arm from the upper rack. make sure that isnt clogged and the spray holes are not clogged. otherwise....

the piece that the bottem spray arm plugs into and runs along the back wall of the tank to the top is called a feed tube. pull the bottom spray arm out. now you can see the part of the feed tube that feeds the upper spray arm water. does it pop out freely and easily? if so then you need a new feed tube, if not then its most likely your not achieving the right water level or your impeller connected to your circulation pump(motor) is clogged not supplying enough water pressure to travel up the feed tube to spin the upper spray arm.
