This definitely worked for me. To find out your computer's MAC address, just go to start, then click run, then type 'CMD'. When prompted, type 'ipconfig/all'. Find your ethernet adapter local area network connection, and underneath you will find a lablel titled Physical Address. This is your MAC address and should consist of 6 pairs of number/letter combinations. Then connect your computer to the modem, eithe wirelessly or directly and point your browser to 192.168.0.1. Under Setup click Internet Setup and then click Manual Internet Connection Setup. Under Internet Connection Type, select Dynamic IP (DHCP), then under MAC address, type in the MAC address of your computer. Click Save Settings and Presto! It worked for me.

Re: Hi I cant configure my router D-link DIR-300
Hi! I will be more than glad to assist u in this concern..Please dont use the setup cd or setup wizard. you can access the setup page of the router by typing at the url:192.168.0.1 then it will ask for the user name and password, by default the username is admin and the password, leave it blank.. here are the things u need to check before u setup u router.. .. if you
are using a cable modem from ur cable company provider- u need to do a
mac clone on the router u have to clone the mac address of ur computer.
normaly the mac of ur computer is the one register to your cable
company and on the setup page of the router just selct on the internet
setup, dhcp after clonning the mac address of your computer. u need to
connect ur computer directly to the router and then after doing the
process connect the router to the modem. if u are using a username and
password, u have to use the pppoe settings on the router, if ur isp set
a static ip , set it up to the router, to check the ip setting of your
isp.. connect the computer directly to the modem and check if u have
internet.. then click on start, run and type cmd,it will give u a dos
prompt and from there type ipconfig/all and it will show u the ip
address, subnetmask, default gateway, dns server.. I hope this will
solve ur concern..

i 1 D-Link DIR-855 User Manual 0 Section 2 - Installation If you are connecting the router to a cable/DSL/satellite modem, please follow the steps below: 1. Place the router in an open and central location. Do not plug the power adapter into the router. 2. Turn the power off on your modem. If there is no on/off switch, then unplug the modem’s power adapter. Shut down your computer. 3. Unplug the Ethernet cable (that connects your computer to your modem) from your computer and place it into the Internet port on the router. 4. Plug an Ethernet cable into one of the four LAN ports on the router. Plug the other end into the Ethernet port on your computer. 5. Turn on or plug in your modem. Wait for the modem to boot (about 30 seconds). 6. Plug the power adapter to the router and connect to an outlet or power strip. Wait about 30 seconds for the router to boot. 7. Turn on your computer. These instruction are on the CD that came with the router Here is the start: D-Link DIR-855 User Manual 13 Section 2 - Installation The DIR-855 includes a Quick Router Setup Wizard CD. Follow the simple steps below to run the Setup Wizard to guide you quickly through the installation process. Insert the Quick Router Setup Wizard CD in the CD-ROM drive. The step-by-step instructions that follow are shown in Windows® XP. The steps and screens are similar for the other Windows operating systems. If the CD Autorun function does not automatically start on your computer, go to Start > Run. In the run box type “D:\DIR855.exe” (where D: represents the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive). When the autorun screen appears, click Install Router.
Section 3 - Configuration Configuration This section will show you how to configure your new D-Link wireless router using the web-based configuration utility. Web-based Configuration Utility To access the configuration utility, open a web-browser such as Internet Explorer and enter the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1). Select Admin from the drop-down menu and then enter your password. Leave the password blank by default. If you get a Page Cannot be Displayed error, please refer to the Troubleshooting section for assistance
Click Launch Internet Connection Setup Wizard to begin. If you want to enter your settings without running the wizard, click Manual Configuration and skip to page 19. follow the prompts. You also can go to D-Iink.com for setup instructions
start - run- type in cmd- enter- type in ipconfig /all will show router address should be 126.96.36.199
open internet explorer and type that # in the address bar
should connect with router
leave password blank or type in password for the password
enter the router setup and configure router to your preferance
Let me clarify this your internet works when your PC is hooked up directly to the modem....
When you connect the router between the pc and the modem the internet does not work....
This sounds like the configuration settings inside the router need to be setup or adjusted.
Go to the web browser and type in 192.168.0.1 and for the username type admin and then leave the password blank hit enter and it should sign you into the router. Follow the setup wizard and everything should work just fine.
Hope it Helps!
You shouldn't need to install anything off the CD. Simply plug your Macbook into the DIR-300 via ethernet (making sure you manually set your Macbook's IP to 192.168.0.x (where x is anything from 2-254). Then open up your web browser and type 192.168.0.1 into the address bar. This will log you into the DIR-300 (I think the default login is "admin" with no password).
Refer to the manual for the configuration for the rest of your setup.
