Question about IBM ThinkPad R40 2681

2 Answers

Thinkpad R40e has no display

The notebook was not in use for over a year. The display does not work at all.

When I plug in the power adapter, the battery indicator LED on the notebook is lit up. As I power on the notebook it doesn't show anything on the display but the exhaust seems to function underneath.

I'm concerned and would highly appreciate any support from this forum.

Thanks in advance.

I have detached the battery but I'm not sure where the RAM component is situated.

Can you kindly illustrate with a picture?

I cleaned the RAM with an eraser and reseated it.

    No luck with display yet.

As I don't have another RAM stick, I'm trying out the CMOS cell from the mobo now.

Dear Sir,
According to your post it seems to be a deffinately problem with RAM.Just Remove the below small panel where RAM is located (you can identify the panel at which where small curved indication showing RAM exisitance beneath that panel)Remove the RAM clean it twice and reinstall it in same place. Now turn on the laptop deffinately your laptop shows display. Open upper cover from battery it is cover for RAM memory Then Refix RAM .
If still problem arise then
Open back side cover of laptop then find motherbord chipset .
Remove CMOS cell from motherbord for 15 minutes then put it again to its position then check.

Problem booting if USB port has a device plugged in

Check the bios and see if it is trying to boot from a usb device, if so disable that or at least move it down so that your computer will boot from the cd and HD first.

If that does not work try loading the cmos defaults and try again.
