Question about Samsung BD-P1000

This disc cannot be played

Player rejects all discs with error message "this disc cannot be played".I suspect laser tracking/focus problem. . Can these be adjusted on this player?
I have cleaned the lenses and optical path several times. Both blue and red lasers seem to have good brightness.

George

I have a Samsung DVD-V3500 DVD-VCR combo. Regardess of what DVD I put in I get the following messages.

    "This disk cannot be played"

    "Please Check the Disk".

The DVDs are fine. They play in my other machine with no problem. Samsung technical support was useless.

Samsung BD-P1000 wont play anything after Samsung sent out new firmware tray will not come out phone Samsung about this no help at all

You need the v 1.9 Samsung firmware update available from the Samsung website, or do a search on BD-P1000 firmware v1.9 and you should find it. This is an ISO image file. Once you download it (it's a ZIP file) you will need a software program that burns ISO files. There are instructions on the website on how to do the upgrade. If you don't do it right, you could turn your BD-P1000 into a brick and have to send it to Samsung to fix it.

You can also get them to send you a CD with the ISO image already on it.

The upgrade is simple: Load the CD into the tray, close it, and power the unit down. Then turn the player on again and the CD should load. You will get a message saying something like "FW upgrade..., Prosessing, DO NOT TURN YOUR PLAYER OFF. Once the FW is done, it will update the loader firmware, and then the Sub FW upgrade, 3 upgrades in all. Once it is done, it will eject the disk and shut the unit off. It will then turn itself on and you will have an opportunity to select the language you want. English is the default, so you really don't have to do anything and it will make that selection for you.

The FW upgrade should solve all of your playability problems with newer Blu ray disks.

Cut your losses. Forget the BD-P1000. It is junk. Buy a new Panasonic BD35K. Got one at Costco (still available at some stores, but no longer in their website) for $229. It is LIGHT YEARS ahead of the $1000 BD-P1000 Samsung. Of course it is 2 years newer, too, but it WORKS out of the box. The Samsung never worked properly. And an added bonus is the BD25K loads Blu-ray disks nearly as fast as DVD's.

That player should never have been launched. Mine never really worked right, and even with Firmare 1.9, it still will not play any of the new disks, and will play older ones only after reinserting the disk 10-15 times (1/2 hour or more wasted time).

I am tired of these tediuos firmware updates that are for the most part USELESS. I have done everyone till their latest 1.8v. I still can only watch 1/3 of new monvies which really arent all new now. I paid $1000 some for this flagship unit. In my book it has sunk. Samsung will not even address my problem except wait for a firmware comming soon. I WANT A REPLACEMENT OF A SIMILAR NEWER MODEL OR REFUND. I have spent well over 20,000 on samsung home theatre products and I will boycott them forever. When I pay for something I want my moneys worth.

Sony disc player just hissing not plalying

Hello, i just found one of these decks yesterday with the same problem. The deck loads a disc correctly, but cannot read the TOC (doesnt display the title or track number)
The hissing sound is actually the sound of the laser lens vibrating in a unfocussed manner
The solution: 1.Use a minidisc lens cleaner if available.2.If not, eject the minidisc and open the deck. Take a good look at the laser lens. Is it dusty or seems hazed over (cigarette fumes)? (Mine was)
If yes, clean the laser lens directly with a cotton swab to which you add a drop of isopropylene (100% alcohol) or (2nd best choice) window cleaner.
Take care to not bend of break the recording head (the white and copper arm just above the lens)
use a dry cotton swab to pick up any remaning humidity on the lens.
3. Try again to read a disc. any success? No? try, if available, a pre-recorded disc
any sucess then? Chances are it might work with a pre-recorded disc because of the better reflectivity of these discs.
No luck yet? Doest it read some discs, others not? well, it's time to re-adjust the deck. The service manual is available here: http://www.minidisc.org/manuals/sony/service/sony_MDS-JE520_service_manual.pdf for free. BTW the site www.Minidisc.org is an exellent source of all information available about minidisc.
First let the deck tell you what the problem is! Page 2 explains how to enter the self-diagnosis mode. Enter the Error DP (display) mode. Look at the error history. Most probably you will find the code E06 (as i did) which means Focus error.
The service manual explains how to enter Adjust mode.
Keep an eye on the C1 error 7350= doesnt read correctly 0-50=adjustment ok.
Do C(ontinous)-play checking: 5-6-5 MO error rate check (Page 38)
Perform focus bias adjust (page 41) (5-12) This is a manual adjustment Keep an eye on the C1 error 7350= doesnt read correctly 0-50=adjustment ok.
Keep in mind that you have to adust the setting "A" with the AMS button to obtain C1=220, and "B" turning the AMS button downwards (anti-clockwise) to obtain C1=220 the deck calculates automaticaly the adjustment "C".
Perform autogain control level output adjustment for MO discs
(page 42) (5-15-2)

If this doesn't work, reset the deck to initial settings / Initial setting of adustment settings (page 39).
Perform focus bias adjust (page 41) again (the deck displays the adress and C-1 and ADER errors)
Check if the adjustment is ok with C-play checking 5-6-5
Perform autogain control level output adjustment for MO discs
(page 42) again (5-15-2)

MO-disc= recordable MD

Hopefully you can re-adjust your deck. You don't need any extra tools for this, the deck displays the error rate. In C-play mode, a pre-recorded disc shows nearly always 0 C-1 errors, a recorded disc should not show more than 50 C-1 errors and no ADER errrors.

Of course this is at your own risk. I can only say that i needed about 1 hour to find the setting which worked with different recorded discs.
There is also the Continuous recording mode to check that the error rater during recording stay within tolerance. If you use this mode bear in mind that the disc will be (partially) erased regardless if fully or partially recorded. In test mode there is no safeguard against accidentaly erasing, so use a new disc or one with a recording you don't care to loose.
Simply unplug the deck to exit the service mode.
Check if you can record after adjusting the focus. Check if you can enter a title to the disc. Is the title there when you eject and reload the disc? If yes, you succeded!
Hope this helps!

P.S. Yes, i once was working for Sony as a repair techncian...

All discs load for a long time, then dvd player shows disc error.

In most cases when the CD does not play it is possible that the optical head is a suspect. Sometimes it might pick up ordinary audio CD but will not play other formats. This indicates that the optical head is weak and so there is no detection or scanning of the CD . If the optical is working the tracks will be read immediately but with no scanning the laser head can be defective.

The main motor will not work in some cases as unless the tracks are read the drive motor will not work with signal from the processor.
Sometimes certain cleaner disks will not be tracked to run for cleaning as it will not be read and so will reject. Hence it is ideal to manually clean the laser head eye using a cleaning swap /cotton bud with gentle pressure on the lens eye.
If there is no result then watch if the CD spins or tries to spin. If so the board seems to work unless a test is taken on the main board but the possibility of a defective optical head can be the suspected fault.
If any of the above seems otherwise we must recheck with possibilities of a malfunction of the main processor board

Everytime i play the disc, it would say loading , then after 10seconds the tray disc would open and say cannot read disc. please check the disc

Put in an ordinary audio CD and play to notice if the CD is detected. If yes the optical is working, if not there is no laser scanning and the possibility that the laser head can be defective.
Now certain cleaner disks will not be tracked to run for cleaning as it is not read. Hence it will reject. So it is ideal to clean manually the laser head eye using a cotton bud with gentle pressure on the lens eye.

I bought 2002 nissan Altima. It has single disc player and it gives me error 3, on cd player shows that disk is inside, but it's not playing neither edjecting the CD. Please advice.

Please try to put in an ordinary audio CD track and see if this is detected. If yes the optical is working , if not there is no laser scanning and the possibility of the head being faulty is high.
Now certain cleaner disks are not read and so will not be tracked. hence the rejection but the best is for cleaning manually the laser head eye with a cotton bud very softly and without any pressing of the lens eye.
If there is still no result then watch the CD if it spins or tries to spin. If the head unit moves up or down to focus or in and out of the drive , if so the board seems to work correctly and the possibility of the optical head being the suspected fault is closer.
But if any of the above seems otherwise we must recheck with possibilities of the processor board

When i install cd it says error 6 on my clarion dxz465mp

Clarion Audio error codes:

Error Codes:

Error 1 Battery inside CD Changer needs to be replaced.

Error 2 CD error message. Mechanism has as eject problem or takes a long time to select CD.

Error 3 CD error message. The pick-up is out of focus during play mode due to scratches on the disc or contamination.

Error 4 Connection problem. Reconnect the data cable.

Error 5 CD error message. Could not read correct data due to CD ROM.

Error 6 CD error message. Could not read data from disc because it is upside-down.

Error 8 Tape Drive system defective. Eating tape or something wrong with the drive system.

Error 9 Weak RF. Try alternate frequency

Even though it says error 6 is an upside down cd, it just means the disc cant be read. usualy means the laser is dirty, out of adjustment, or not working.

CD not working. Error 12 message

error 12 is a read problem.
Most of the time it is an alignemt problem with the laser.
Sometimes it can be the mechanism, or vary rarely a dirty laser lense, or disc.

This error message merely means that it cannot play the disc. It is usually due to the laser diode inside the optical pickup head is weak, misaligned, or defective. But, it could also mean the tracking and focus adjustments have been jarred too far out. Or, it could be mean the servo controller for the head and motor drive has gone bad. Anything that prevents the system from reading the digital information on the surface of the disc will bring up the error code.

So, you must either have it serviced to find out the cause - or just replace it. This model is no longer current but there are many from Pioneer and others that could be an equivalent unit.

"no disc" message

sounds like you have a problem with the laser.laser has to focus a lot sharper to play dvd thus will play vcd but not dvd.Try cleaning first and if this doesnt work would suspect laser faulty,.
