It could be thread that is stuck in the bobbin, a bent needle, a loose needle, or once, I even had to take the screws out of the top of my machine and take it apart and sprayed WD 40 all over the inside of the machine to lubricate it. Hope you figure it out.

Oh, WD40 is not a good thing to use on a sewing machine because, over time, it dries out, becomes gummy, and will eventually seize the machine. Better to use liquid Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube, silicone spray, or a "good quaity" clear sewing machine oil

My hand wheel is hard to move and will not make a complete turn unless I manually move it. Foot pedal all the way down.

Is the motor straining? If so, do not continue to force the motor to run the machine. It could burn it out and you will then be replacing the motor in addition to repairing the other problem.

Is your machine mechanical or computerized? If computerized, check that no thread is wrapped in the bobbin area or around the handwheel. May need to be taken to a technician for repair.

If mechanical, the machine could be seized due to lack of regular cleaning and oiling. With a soft brush, remove any lint, dust, thread pieces, fuzz, etc. from the bobbin area, the feed dogs, and under the needle plate. Then oil:

My machine locked up while winding bobbin. I had released the wheel prior to pushing the pedal. Right after it started winding it locked up. I cannot release the wheel or turn the wheel.

There may be thread wrapped around the handwheel, preventing it from moving.

Are you able to remove the bobbin from the winder? Perhaps that will help release the machine.

Is your machine an older mechanical machine (NOT computerized)? If so, have you cleaned and oiled it recently? Old oil will dry out and eventually turn to a glue-like substance, eventually freezing the moving parts. Consult your owner's manual and follow the instructions using ONLY fresh, good quality sewing machine oil (if yours is dark yellow or brown, it is old--THROW IT OUT!). If your machine is mechanical, it could very well be that the handwheel is frozen from lack of maintenance.

Will only make very small stitches even when set on 4.

With no make or model, it's guessing. First remove throat plate under presser foot that needle passes through, check for lint on feed dogs and in between feed dog teeth. Next l would oil feed dog mechanism, turn hand-wheel with throat plate removed and look for parts that rub. Lubricate with sew machine oil. Hope it helps.

then I suggest having the machine serviced to see what the

I have misplaced my manual and need to know if and where I oil my machine.

all newer machines require little maintence except in the bobbin area, and the area above the needle. simply place a few drops on the shaft that allows the needle to go up and down and keep lint free, you can use canned air for this. The area below the cover plate and the bobbin case need cleaned after every 8 to 10 hours of sewing. you can remove the cover plate by removing the two screws the plate should lift up so you can clean the feeddogs and bottom of plate, if you remove the bobbin at the same time you can clean this area and oil the center of bobbin area of machine , oil any parts the move or have oil ports, these are very small and look like a nut with a hole in the center, one or two drops are all that is needed. replace all parts and test a scrap piece to make sure no oil gets on current project.

Top thread locks bottom thread bunches and machine makes noise

start with a deep clean and oil. check tensions, top and bottom-stitch should "lock" inside the fabric. make sure you use same thread on bobbin as on the machine. Check needle for nicks or bent. Make thread is threaded correctly, passing through upper tension plate. check tension plate(upper) for rust or lint.

Flywheel locked up on Babylock Ellegante. No threads tangled up anywhere.

When you removed and replaced the throat plate, bobbin and bobbin case to clean the shuttle and surrounding area, did you have the needle at it's highest position?

If the bobbin case is not properly re-installed, the hand wheel is affected.

If all of the above has been done and the handwheel is still locked up, the machine will need to go into the shop for service.

This is an expensive, computorized machine and any additional hands-on troubleshooting could add up to a costly repair fee.
