Synch problem with Dell 2005FPW Monitor

The short version of my question is, where can I get a replacement video board for this monitor?

The longer version needs a little background explanation. The monitor performed beautifully for a few weeks when it was new (about 1-1/2 years ago), and then it started to be flaky (with a tearing picture that would clear up when the unit got warm). After a couple of days it ceased functioning at all, with the unit producing a screen message to the effect that "synch cannot be achieved" with any of its various input modes. (I forget the exact words of the message, but that is the gist.) Dell has been of no help, since the unit had been originally purchased in a foreign country -- India, I believe. (My son had bought it from a private party.)

I have the unit apart and can see that there are two circuit boards, one obviously the power supply and the other handling the video functions. I'm assuming the problem is in the latter board, but that there's nothing I can do to repair it. Replacing it, however, would appear to be an easy task. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thank you!

Thanks for the suggestion.  I will probably have to get a board from Dell if I can't repair it myself.

I have now replaced the electrolytics, on both boards.  I do not think the problem is with the inverter/power supply board.  The monitor functions in the D-SUB mode and is capable of generating on-screen messages (text and graphics), which I don't think it would do if the power supply was not functioning.  The problem is with the S-VIDEO and COMPOSITE modes; it recognizes that there's a signal but sends the message "Cannot Display this Mode" for both of these.  Removing the input signal makes it generate the message "No Input Signal."  Wouldn't this indicate that the problem is with the video AD board?

I probably should have mentioned that the fact that it works in D-SUB mode may be new; I could not get it to respond to any of the input modes the last time I tried it (last year), but I now have a different computer.  It displays the computer image beautifully.

The only place to get replacement parts are for the Dell. Call them up and order the part. The part you will need not the video AD board. What you need it a backlight inverter / power supply. The one you had are busted... or you can repaired replaced a few busted capacitors. If you are lucky you can spotted by a bulging on the top of each caps... Not sure, just replaced all the caps... Good lucks!

I have a 2005FPW monitor that is rolling vertically. It first started rolling when cold but cleared after warm-up. Now it rolls all the time. Can it be fixed?

1. you have a power supply issue. Possibly a regulator in the power up circuit and it has a weak component such as a capacitor and or a diode that is defective.
2, You will need a repair tech to look at the main board to determine which components need replacement.
I hope this helps. Have a great day!

My dell 2005fpw screen has gone blank and power button is flashing green. The monitor is connected to my laptop via a docking station.

A flashing green is usually a power supply failure on the main board of the LCD and a protective shut down circuit kicks in when the voltages are not correct at the check sum.
This also depending on the circuit configuration that the monitor is in standby mode. Your user manual can give you this information.
This also may be the video card itself or a loose cable.
Check the monitor cable to see if it is secured.
Also check you resolution settings on the PC. This procedure will require you to connect another monitor to the pc to see if it will bring a signal.
If a signal is visible then the video card is ok.
If not then you will have to check the video driver for the video graphic display card and or replace the card.

Dell 2005FPW Monitor Flicker problem

The flickering is most likely the florescent backlight having a hard time starting, Just like in a light fixture, as it gets old, it takes longer to warm up to get full functionality.
If under warranty, contact Dell for a replacement, if not, then when it becomes untenable, replace the monitor. Prices are dropping drastically, an new 20 or 22 In can be bought for about $150 or less

Dell monitor 2005FPW keeps on flashing

I was having the same problem.
I solved it by replacing the two 47µF capacitors on the power supply/inverter board.
I actually removed all the capacitors (around 13) and all checked out fine except for the two 47µF.
I forgot to take pictures or even write down the capacitor label on the board.
They are located close to the logic board connector
