Im a bit clueless but i have a downloaded movie on my pc and want to be able to put it on a disc, i have a compaq 6720s , does it have a burner inside it? what do i need to buy or install to be able to use...

I'm going to assume you are using a Windows operating system if you are using Windows media player. Windows media player does not come with the ability to burn or rip dvds. If your computer came with a dvd burner installed it should have also come with the burning software. You need to look for software labeled "Nero" or "Roxio" or another name that alludes to the fact that it will burn your dvds for you. Most of the software is pretty user friendly and if you need help using it you can just Google the software name and what your problem is and you can usually find an answer.

Now the tricky part is getting the video to a format that will allow you to burn it to dvd AND be played through a standard dvd player.

In order for your video file to be played in a standard DVD player it will need to be encoded in the MPEG-2 format. You will need software to do this for you. An excellent program would be "DVD Flick"

LifeHacker has put out an excellent tutorial explaining how to use DVD Flick here:

I hope this helps! If this did help you, please give a thumbs up!

Thank you for choosing FixYa!

I burned a dvd in Pinnacle Studio Plus 11. I know stuff burned to the DVD, but it won't play on the computer or in the DVD player. Does Pinnacle not finalize the DVD, could that be why it's not playing? ...

Be sure to check if there is a file written on the DVD disk. Try to install a player like VLC and see if the .VOB file is playing. If not the DVD is not burned properly then try to recheck your settings on the Studio 11 Make Movie

Dirty disc message

You might miss match the file associations while burning them as movie dvd (ie if you have the extension like making a movies cd of the file extension like .fly,.mp4,.3gp,etc...) makes a dirty dvd disc in dvd player it can only be readable under the computer in some cases. Try to read it in a system and convert it into .mpeg extension by total video converter available at http://dw.com.com/redir?edId=3&siteId=4&oId=3001-2194_4-10429299&ontId=2194_4&spi=54bb6302e3f8eb192d7c4d5e103edc96&lop=txt&tag=idl2&pid=11366878&mfgId=105109&merId=105109&pguid=Q7DsewoPjGEAAHsRE5EAAAEz&destUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fsoftware-files-l.cnet.com%2Fs%2Fsoftware%2F11%2F36%2F68%2F78%2Ftvc.exe%3Fe%3D1274206388%26h%3D61a08d8270b9777c717edcb3bb514fd4%26lop%3Dlink%26ptype%3D1901%26ontid%3D2194%26siteId%3D4%26edId%3D3%26spi%3D54bb6302e3f8eb192d7c4d5e103edc96%26pid%3D11366878%26psid%3D10429299%26fileName%3Dtvc.exe & burn it again as dvd format. After burning the DVD once,

Several possible solutions.

1. If you are using DVD-R discs, your player probably does not support them. There are known compatibility issues with DVD-R discs. If your burner supports it, use DVD+R discs.
2. Try burning at the slowest possible speed. That can help your player pick up the disc better.
3. Did you remember to put a menu in the beginning of your movie? Even if you have the disc set to skip the menu when inserted, it still must exist for some DVD players to recognize it as a disc and play it.

Copied dvds will not play on other dvd players

Are you using DVD+R or DVD-R to burn the movies to? DVD+R is what you want to burn movies to for best quality and DVD-Rs are for like pictures and documents etc (even though you can also burn those to a DVD+R). Secondly, most movies that burn are played back in MP3 format, make sure your dvd playing is capable of playing MP3s.

What exactally do you mean by you bought 2 different types of blank videos?

I have a Canon A540 digital camera . we can copy video clips to DVD and this can be played onto my notebook BUT we cannot play these clips through the DVD recorder onto the TV. Can you please...

Hi, DVD players can only play DVD Standard format and some standard codec (divx,...), so if you want to play your clip in a DVD player you must convert them to the standard format... an easy way is useing nero express:  nero express > video > DVD, then add yor clips, make a nice menu and then burn it on DVD. Also you can use Nero vision for better menus or Ulead DVD movie factory for even better Menu if you can spend money. ;) I hope this helps.
