Problems with Frigidaire FRS6R4E Side by Side Refrigerator?

The frez work just fine. The refrigerator side fan not blowing. I turned the temp knob to zero, then pit on colder. I heard slightly the fan engage at a real slow motion, then stop and a couple of clicking noise. I only had the refrig for a year and 4 months

No, there is no frost build-up in rear. The fan for freezer working just fine.

  • oceanrunner Nov 23, 2007

Also, I just took the inside rail (plastic cover house the wires) where the damper located off. Just drop the plastic housing to see if the damper close to let the air through. I discovered when I open the freezer door, some cold air travel from the freezer into refrig. When I shut the freezer door, the cold air stop traveling through?????????

  • oceanrunner Nov 23, 2007

Ok, I discovered the problem. I checked the coils inside the refrig section. I noticed the coils were frozen. I cut it off, and used a hair blow dryer to defrost. Vola! its back working again. You you suspect the defrost themo not working? How can I correct this problem from occurring again? What broke?

  • oceanrunner Nov 28, 2007

I did the 5 times click on the light switch. It appeared the compressor and fan turned off. I waited an hour, still same problem

  • oceanrunner Nov 28, 2007

I checked the damper, and its working fine. As far as the blockage, nothing blocking at the vent. Right now its working fine. Its blowing with the freezer door closed

  • oceanrunner Nov 28, 2007

No, I disconnected it and defrost the coils with a hair dyer. Once done, it started working correctly.

Thanks, you mean in about 4 days...(smile) What is the bimetal?

The refrig side does not have a fan. only the freezer. Is that fan working??? you will hear it when the unit is running (and not in defrost) The clicking you hear is the Damper (a motorized door allowing more or less air to the refrig) opening or closing. Is there frost buildup on the back wall of the freezer??

Pull off the lower back panel in the freezer behind the lower shelves and check the coil behind for frost buildip. Also check the lower return air duct (its located beside the coil going into refrig side) for any blockages.

While it is likely that the thermo failed it could be the ADC control board, or the defrost heater. You will need an ohmmeter to check the thermo (when the temps are stabilized) and the heater. Does your refrig have 2 thermostats on the control panel?? If so if you push the Refrig light switch 5 times that puts the ADC control in a forced defrost mode. The compressor, fans turn off and def heater is energized through the thermo.

The return air duct is blocked by ice if you still feel air when the freezers open and not when its closed. I had 2 calls where this was an issue today. Return duct is behinnd the crispers close to the water tank. looks similar to opening behind damper

The ice in the returen finally did clear itself than. Since the board did go into defrost as you described the most likely repair would be the defrost bimetal. Also of course the def heater itself could also be bad.

Yes but im trying to convey to you is that the unit is probably not defrosting by itself (its not normal to have to use a hair dryer to defrost it) aits got its own heater for that. It may not be working proper and in a few weeks the frost may come back.

ok first test-- the bimetal is the switch that has probably a blue and a light blue wire and its clipped to a freon tube at the top of the coil. You have to test it when its cold--before you defrost it. You remove panel quickly while ice is still on evap. Then press FF sw 5 times to put into defrost. The heater probably wont get hot. Next splice the wires to the bimetal. If it heats -- thats what it was. If it still doesnt then......try that first. Oh one other note dont leave bimetal bypassed. Seperate and insulate the two wires until u have a new bimetal.

The freezer is fine steady at 0, but the refrigerator temperature keeps rising currently at 67 degrees.

Check the freezer make sure you do not have frost build up. Defrost problems choke out the air flow and if it happens the refrigerator will not cool.

When does the thermostat need to be replaced in my refrigerator

Test the fan for continuity. If its OK check the power supply going to the fan if power is there, fan is bad, replace it. Fan blows the cold air to the fresh food section, if its not working very little cold air gets to that side, thats why its so hot in there.

Frigidaire gallery refrigerator freezer and fridge are warm, no air blowing out can hear fan in back, back of freezer wall is iced over. What's wrong with it and how do I fix it?

Replace the timer. It is located in the refrigerator side on the wall behind the temp. contol knobs. Pretty simple job. I has the same problem and a repairman wanted to change the thermostat and the heaters for a few hundred. He never mentioned the timer. Talked to someone else and they suggested the timer and they were right. Haven't had a problem since and it's been a couple of years now.

Refrigerator runs warmer than usual

Hello Sam Hagar - Is your refrigerator a side by side? If so, and if the refrigeration side is the one with the issue, you need to check the damper door/switch that is between both doors. In side by side units this damper controls the cool air from the freezer to come over to the refrigeration side to cool it. Contact a professional technician to diagnose if the unit has a floating restriction or an issue with the evaporator fan.
