Well I found the problem - fuse had blown.
There is a circuit diagram on the back of the washer that allowed me to locate the fuse. Take off the rear top plastic panel (behind the folding lid) by removing the two screws on the back. Inside close to the power cord you will find a fuse holder and an in-line ceramic fuse, 125V 12A. I checked mine for continuity and it had blown (as to why, I don't know yet - maybe the motor drew too much current with a large wash load?) - anyways, I replaced the fuse and everything works now!

This is probably a lid cover open protection. Check to see if there is a magnet on the cover, positioned almost to centre (slightly to the right) at edge of the cover. There is some sort of plastic catch to house the magnet. If it is not there, place a magnet at the corresponding area on the washer where the plastic catch will touch when the lid cover close.

This might be Lid cover open protection. There is a small magnet at the edge of the lid cover, housed in some sort of a catch.
If the plastic housing cracked, the magnet might have dropped into the washing drum. To overcome this, place a magnet on the position where the plastic catch will contact the washer when the lid is close.

Check the lid cover. At the edge, there is a plastic housing some sort of a magnet. This is the magnetic sensor for lid cover open protection.
If the magnet is not there, place a magnet at the position on the washer where the housing will come in contact with the washer when lid is close.
