Question about Nikon 105mm f2.8 G ED AF-S VR Micro Lens

1 Answer

I have a Nikon AF-S Micro Nikkor 105 2.8 G ED lens which I purchased new. My problem is I can't get the aperture to open to f2.8. The best I can get is f3.0 or f3.2. I have a Nikon d-700 body and all my other f2.8 lenses work perfectly. Am I doing something wrong?

My camera won't take pictures and up in the righthand corner, it reads fE E when I press the shutter. I have the Nikon AF Nikkor 28-105 lens affixed (1:3.5-4.5D)

Turn the aperture ring on the lens to its smallest setting (largest f/number) and lock it. You control the aperture from the camera, the same way as on a lens without an aperture ring.

My camera won't take pictures and whenever i attempt to it says FEE and doesn't take it. i don't know why?

In order to use a lens with an aperture ring on a Nikon DSLR, you must set the aperture to its smallest opening (largest f/number). Lock it in place if it has an aperture ring lock.

You control the aperture the same way you would on a lens without an aperture ring, from the camera body.

I set this "Nikon 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor Lens" or tried to set it to F2.8 in full manual mode. the F-Stop wandered from F2.8 to F3 / F4.5 depending on where i pointed the lens. I...

You have described Aperture priority mode: you set the f/stop and the shutter speed changes to make the exposure correct.

Full manual mode requires you to set both the shutter speed and the f/stop. You are seeing the recommended f/stop for the shutter speed you have selected.

Lens will not open up all the way

Is the maximum available aperture dependent on the focus distance? Many macro/micro lenses "dim" slightly as you focus in close.

See if you get 2.8 focused at infinity.

Camera will not take picture with nikkor 105mm lens

Check if the lens is properly mounted. If still you get the error message, clean the electrical contacts between the lens and the camera using an eraser. Take care not to let any dust fall into the body. Attach the lens and try.
