Weathermaker 8000 furnace lights, but shuts off almost immediately. Fan would not come on. At thermostat set fan to 'always' on mode. When burners lit, stayed on a little longer then furnace shut off including fan.

I have a six burner Weathermaker 8000 the first three burners close to the gas valve light all the time the last three are intermitant .There is a sensor at the last burner that must be heated for the furnace to stay on or it will shut off. I cleaned the orfices with air and the pipe they sit on and it seemed to help a lot. Factory repair people had told me to buy a new furnace !!!

  • Anonymous Dec 14, 2007

Same problem. What I did to fix it was to take off the sensor wire (this is done by un-clipping it and undoing 1 screw with a 1/4" nut driver) and clean it. Reposition it if necessary so the flame hits it but do not try to bend it as is will break easily.

My furnance will not start in the morning unless I turn the switch on the side of the furnance off and then on again.

  • horoussel Nov 26, 2008

Some times the furnace won't start unless I turn the kill switch on and off, then the igniter will come on then go off because the gas it seems won't come on, then the igniter will try again and the furnace will start. I don't think it is the thermestat as it is a new one.
The furnace is seven years old. I have already replaced motor.
    Can anybody help? Thanks.
    Howard

. Several times of recyling power normally brings the furnance up. Though the failure code has always been 31, there are several different behaviour when the blower starts after reset :
a. blower simply creases.
b. there is an attempt to start the heating unit (I hear the high pitch noises), then everything stops.
c. there is an attempt to start the heating unit (I hear the high pitch noises), once I see the orange glow from the coil, normally the gas is lit up and the unit starts working.

10 year old furnace started intermittent lock up with error code 31.
Careful investigation revealed intermittent inducer motor. It starts
but stops running or it won't start when heat is called for.
Took the control board out(HK42FZ004) and went through it. The problem found was cracked solder joint on two high Wattage resistors R34 and R33
(both 330 Ohms) had cracked solder joints on the PCB due to heat(?).
Reinforced the joints with silver solder. Now furnace is behaving normal again. Google search showed it is known problem mentioned in service bulletin. Going price for replacement board is ~200.00.
Hope this may be of some help for someone who has same furnace type.
(Carrier, Bryant, Payne brand uses same board I believe).

This happened to our wder maker 8000
the ignition sensor/ thermoresistor is broken get it serviced
this turning on and off is because the system checks if the gas is lit using the sensor, if it does not detect fir it will shut off to prevent explosion

This is what happened to my WeatherMaker 8000 furnace.
I first hear a heat pump motor runs and gas lit through burner for a few seconds then shut off repeatly a few times. I also measure PL2 wires connect to Igniter which its' position on the second right burner counting from the right side when you face to furnace. Before gas lit into burner, the voltage is about 12 VAC until gas valve open to let gas into the burner then I measure at the PL2 wires which connect from PL2 to Igniter turned into 120VAC. Meaning that there is a power runs up to Igniter but Igniter does not have a connect , power was cutting off, then gas valve closed. I unscrewed the igniter and find out the the element from igniter broken. buy a igniter from dealer for the cost of 35 dollar plus my labour while I call for an service with the price of 300 plus. so far i am getting my furnace back working again. for this reason, i did research some things new about the flame sensor but i can not say i will be right for this. in case of the you can see a igniter turns light on, gas lit into burner and there is still problem of shutting off , then there could be possible a flame sensor malfunction. you can sand slightly off the carbon around the flame sensor. I think the flame sensor is picking up temperature and tells the cpu that so far there is a heat, then let cpu will let gas lit continuely into burner. it may possible that if there is a high heat exists, and flame sensor will tell the cpu shut off the gas valve and stops supply any more heat. if you are at this situation, you will smell a strong burn smell from the paint of the furnance, and it also tells me that the motor is now malfunction.

On this unit a code 31 usually is a high pressure switch or relay not closing. Use the diagram on the unit. Find pressure switch. There is a button in the center of the switch press it to reset. Also check the ignition module and flame sensor for burn out.

I think the running on power up is just a test mode for a service person.

After 18 years of service, it is not cost effective to just replace the heat exchanger. Go the complete replacement route. There may be a utility company incentive to do it.

The filter should slide out of a built in rack from the side of the furnace by the return inlet. It should have the size on it or you'll have to measure it. It may also be inside the bottom door. Pull the door up and out, the filter will be on one side or the other. Unless you have a special Hepa or electronic filtering system.

Funace keeps shutting down

Restarting after removing the power is how the equipment is designed to operate because removing power temporarily clears the fault code. Not starting could be caused by a number of built in safety devices such as roll out switches or partially blocked flue pipe. I've seen them with bird's nest in it. This should be looked at by a trained professional.

I have a carrier 58RAV050-12 and my furnace won't turn on. It was working earlier today but it just stopped. Any suggestions as to why?

Check the pilot lt. If its out shutdown your furnace and call a repairman. If the pilot light is on, the flame sensor might have gone out. It's a long silver sensor that sits in the pilot light flame and senses when the flame is present. If it isn't working the furnace will automatically shut down.
