SOURCE: Singer sewing machine 6215c trouble

The problem is actually with the upper thread not having enough tension on it. Check your upper tension setting,,,it should be set about mid range of its adjustment (4,5 or 6). To see if the tension is functioning correctly thread the machine and raise the presser foot to its up position and pull thread thru the needle. It should pull easily, lower the presser foot down to the fabric and now the thread should become harder to pull. If there is no change in the pull, then either the thread is not in the tension correctly ot the tension is not working,

SOURCE: sewing Machine Manual Singer modle 6215C

Singer has the manual for the 6215 sewing machines on their site for sale or download. The direct link for the downloadable version is http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/1316_6215.pdf . (Note: Singer does not use the letter suffix in their manuals; one manual will apply to the entire set of machines.)

I hope this helps.

Can't take top off Singer 6215c, because levers on the front and bobbin winder on the top are in the way. What am I not seeing to do?

Rest assured, there IS a way to get it off! However, in your case, I would purchase the service manual for your machine; it will describe how to get the sides and top off, and in which order they should go. For instance, It's possible that before you take off the top, you have to take off one side. You can purchase it for a nominal sum; http://www.sewingpartsonline.com has a great many of these service manuals, and if they don't have it, they can order it for you.

Easy fix is take to local repair person, but barring that you will need to look to replace the little knob so that it tightens down and grabs the larger knob. Sometime you'll need to try to place it on the machine a few different ways till it works right.

The little knob is used to disenage the machine for winding a bobbin. Add little bit of machine oil to help keep it loose.

Clutch Release Problem

You will need to remove the clutch release knob and the 3 eared positioner (the clutch) under that knob. Reposition the clutch on the shaft, put the knob back on and see if you can put the screw back in the hole. If it hits something, remove the knob, remove the clutch and turn it 180 degrees. This will reposition the ears. Put the clutch back on the shaft, put the knob back on the shaft and screw the screw into the hole. Test to be sure the knob releases the hand wheel to wind the bobbin.Be sure the thread is under the thread guide when you wind the bobbin and that there is a slight tension on it.
