My asus computer won't boot after trying to make a start up disc it goes to the asus system recovery tool screen and stops there

The start up disk should start with options for Language.

Then type of keyboard

Then you should see a menu from which you pick "Troubleshooting".

Then you should see a menu for Toshiba options or Advanced Service Options. Do not pick Toshiba unless you want to loose all your data.

Choose advanced Service options which includes resetting your pc , safe mode and factory reset (but you loose your data).
Or choose to reboot from another device such as USB.

What is the solution to "Exception EOleSysError module at 00058E75."

    Try this:

    Run a CheckDisk:
How to run Chkdsk at the command prompt

    (Windows XP)
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In Open, type cmd, and then press ENTER.
    3. Use one of the following procedures:
      • To run Chkdsk in read-only mode, at the command prompt, type chkdsk, and then press ENTER.
      • To repair errors without scanning the volume for bad sectors, at the command prompt, type chkdsk volume:/f, and then press ENTER.

Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message: Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)Type Y, and then press ENTER to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.
      • To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information, at the command prompt, type chkdsk volume:/r, and then press ENTER.

        Windows Vista & Windows 7
You can launch CHKDSK using two methods (the former being the easiest):

        Graphical Interface:

Open the Computer option from the start menu, which will display all of the drives available to scan on your PC:

        108d1237820652-use-chkdsk-check-disk-chkdsk.png
Then, right click on the drive you wish to scan for errors and select Properties:

        107d1237820652-use-chkdsk-check-disk-chkdsk2.png
Now click the Tools menu, then Check Now under the error-checking section:

        106d1237820652-use-chkdsk-check-disk-chkdsk3.png
You have several options within the check disk tool. It is always recommended you leave the "automatically fix file system errors" box checked, as this repairs and problems found. If you want to perform a deeper scan, tick "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors". This second option takes longer, but is worth doing if you suspect a drive problem. Once you are configured, click Start:

        105d1237820652-use-chkdsk-check-disk-chkdsk4.png
If you try to check a disk that is currently in use, you will receive a message asking if you wish to schedule a scan. Accepting this will perform the scan next time you restart your PC:

        Good Luck!

New computer, never used a burner before. how to use the dvd burner?

Purchase or download free burning software. There is a number of different softwares to choose for your DVD burning needs. SwiftDisc Burning Wizard Premium, Xilisoft DVD Creator and Nero 9 come with a free trial. The purchasing price is less than $100, as of 2009. Ashampoo Burning Studio Free and BurnAware Free are available if you do not want to buy the software.

  • 2 Insert a DVD into the burner. The DVD-RWs offer the option of erasing the DVD or adding more application to the disk. Do not use this type of disk for playing movies in a regular DVD player or music in a stereo. DVD-R disks are non-erasable. Take extra care when burning on this type of disk, any errors or accidentally opening the drive will cause the disk to stop functioning.
  • 3 Run your burning software. When you insert the disk, a window will appear. Press the "X" in the top right corner. Click on the "Start Menu" icon. Go to "Programs" then click on the burning application folder. You will have different options depending on the program. Typically, you will have the choice of burning data, videos or music.

  • In case you want some free burning software, type in a comment, I will find some for you

I installed Windows XP a second time on my hard drive hence I now have a menu on boot up where I select which operating system I wish to use. I have since delted the second install of XP but the menu...

If you just formatted the partition with the second XP installation on there, it should remove the boot menu where you choose which installation to go to.
Here are a few options for you to choose from.
    • Option One: Open Start-Run and enter msconfig Click the tab "BOOT.INI" The contents of the boot.ini file are shown and a number of configuration settings are available. Under Operating systems, delete the one you don't want. Be careful not to delete the wrong one.
    • Option Two: Right-click on "My Computer" and choose "Properties" from the context menu. The System Properties dialog box will open. In the section "Startup and Recovery" click the button "Settings". To delete the unwanted operating system from the boot display menu, use the "Edit" button on the right of the entry.
    • Option Three: If the OS is Windows XP Professional, it has a command line utility for manipulating boot.ini called bootcfg.exe.
Click start, type CMD, click OK and you are presented with the command prompt. Type bootcfg /? It will list the description and parameter list. Once again, you can delete the unwanted OS.
    • Option Four: Boot to the XP install disk and open up the command prompt utility of the disk. Enter "fixmbr" and press enter. Restart the computer and remove the disk.

The PLUG AND PLAY DEVICE in the administrative tools. Click the START MENU button located in the lower left corner of your desktop. Click CONTROL PANEL, then PERFORMANCE AND MAINTENANCE. Locate the ICON that says SERVICES. DOUBLE click this option. To the left, a list will populate of many options. DOUBLE click the SERVICES AND APPLICATIONS. A list will appear. Locate the PLUG AND PLAY service. Right click this service then click properties. You will see a drop box menu option. Here, you want to change the option to AUTOMATIC, then click APPLY in the lower left corner of the properties box, then click START. If the service will not start, click the DEPENDENCIES tab in the PROPERTIES section of this service. It will show other services that MUST be turned on as well in order for this SERVICE to begin. Follow the same steps as listed above to begin the services needed. If this does not help, you may need to download a DRIVER for your external hard disc device.

If the drive is showing an error (or is missing) in device manager, do the following:

Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
