Bad/No reception problem on older tube tv worked good yesterday
Bad/No reception problem on older tube tv which worked perfectly yesterday. Today we've received a 32” Zenith Television bought in the year 2000 (the tube kind). We plug the normal cable into it (the same cable works great with our other TV’s) but all channels sound like static and are black/gray fuzzy, no picture at all on any channels. Channel 3 looks and sounds different than all the rest and has some wavy lines mixed with the static/fuzz. I choose menu option ‘cable’ and do auto search… finds 66 of the 80+ channels that it should receive (our good TV’s find and display 80+ channels), after this there are no changes to this bad/no reception problem. I’ve experimented with this auto search at least ten times switching from cable to antenna and back to cable etc…
I thought the TV tuner is bad so I connected the TV to our VCR and used it as a tuner but the VCR makes absolutely no difference, even channel 3 is the same. No VCR movies will show on this TV either. Tried cable auto search while VCR is on as well, no luck.
I’ve tried a hard reset, unplugging the TV for 8 hours, but that doesn’t fix or change anything at all.
Video games work perfectly on this TV with no reception. Has a great picture and wonderful color with the video games.
The previous owner is my husband’s grandma and she said it worked great for her except the color seemed a little light for her.
Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

I am guessing that the picture tube has gone bad and needs to be replaced then or it could be that the power supply has gone bad or the capacitors have gone bad and need to be replaced. Or it could be the fuses are bad now.Well it is a really old TV there could be a lot of things that could be not working anymore and have stopped working.
Sounds like you're in the fringe area of the antenna. Depending on how far you are from the broadcast antenna, You may have to increase the length of the pole that antenna is on or get an antenna that has a greater range in miles. Digital signals are real picky about antenna aim. If you have a long cable between the antenna and the TV, you might try an inline amplifier.
look for excessive lambs wool in the area around the armature/commutator. Then look for the commutator being cupped real bad and if so you would need to replace it or have it turned at a repair shop if it is not that bad. Clean the brush tubes also to make sure the brushes move freely.
I have the same problem with not much help from the store where i brought my TV from, they sell their items but as to good old after sales service it is non exsistant unless you are buying. They suggested it was the co-axial cable and also said the most likely factor is if you have a VCR connected then each time you want to watch TV take the aerial out of the VCR and put it directly into the TV, good one if you want to record on the VCR, this doesnt help the problem. Same you, I am still stuck with reception problems. By the way I have a 42' digital in the Loungeroom with VCR, DVD, Surround Sound all hooked up (& to same aerial on roof) with no reception problems, the one I am having trouble with is small digital TV in bedroom (room is next to loungeroom). I am on the Gold Coast in good reception area. Wonder if anyone has found a solution yet.
if the camera makes pics pics but the schreen is white. this is a lcd faul. its probaly that is only a faul contact of the lcd flat. if the lcd flat is right connected , you must cahange the lcd. the lcd cost for your camera to one international seller on alibaba can are from 20 to 35 euro...if you change it alone. sorry for my bad english
Hi Fiona
Somewhere along the line from the aerial there must be a signal splitter that feeds the upstair and downstair terminals.
Try to find that splitter and switch the output to see if the problem goes from up to downstair.
If it does switch then you know the problem is with the splitter block, and if it stays the same then the problem is with the cable and/or the connectors that run downstairs.
Also the reason you get a pixellated(snowy) picture is because of signal loss during the length of the cable you ran downstair.
If running a cable downstair becomes the best option to fix your problem , then you could buy a cheap 10db signal booster/r.f amplifier to correct the signal loss and a cable splitter to feed both tv`s
That booster would be installed upstair in your case(near the source of the signal to be amplified).
I could send you a small diagram if need be.
Hope this will help and Merry Chrismas
techs call this a cold or a bad solder connection on the output transistor most likely, tap on it here and there when it happens on the bottom and side of tv, if sound comes in then stops again then it would be a loose connection due to heat over time, if your inclined u can be fixed it, if bad chip it would play first then shut off, or if u have a cable box or rca outputs on tv use them on an amp to get sound, that would bypass amp output and u will use the preamp section which is a different circuit, [email protected]
First thing that comes to mind is that the horizontal driver transformer has bad solder connections on the primary and the secondary windings. Also a set this old could also have a defective regulator IC if you dont know wht m saying , b=est thing to do is find out how much an estimate is then go back to best buy and see what a new set cost cause man you got your moneys worth outa this one for sure!!!!! Good Luck
I've just learned that the model # is Z32X31D
