If you move your router from eircom to smartelecom you have to change security protocol from "chap" eircom to "pap" smarttelecom.
Now Do this few steps.
Go to start menu on windows find and click run.

When you will see black screen that will be command prompt.
Now you have to type your defaul ip adress. To check your defaul ip adress type ipconfig in command prompt and press enter.
Default Gateway is your default ip adress. Now when you know your ip type in command prompt:
telnet yourip 23 and press enter, for example:
telnet 192.168.1.254 23
If you didnt setup any password to login to the router you will be loged automaticly and you will see "Netopia-2000/18861188>
But if you have setuped login and password to your router you have to first type your login and press enter, then password and press enter to have acces.

I want to know what are the Dns( &2

Short for Domain Name System (or Service or Server), an Internet service that translates domain names into IP addresses. Because domain names are alphabetic, they're easier to remember. The Internet however, is really based on IP addresses. Every time you use a domain name, therefore, a DNS service must translate the name into the corresponding IP address. For example, the domain name www.example.com might translate to 198.105.232.4. The DNS system is, in fact, its own network. If one DNS server doesn't know how to translate a particular domain name, it asks another one, and so on, until the correct IP address is returned.

How do I configure my NIC with a static IP for use with a SpeedTouch Home?If you are using an Alcatel SpeedTouch Home (without a router), a PPPoE client such as NTS, WinPoet, or RASPPPoE, and are experiencing stalls and freezes while surfing or connected, it may be that your NIC is not configured correctly. You must set a Static IP on your NIC. If you have it incorrectly set for "Obtain IP automatically" it will be looking for a DHCP server that does not exist. During the time the NIC is searching for the DHCP server you will experience stalls and freezes. An incorrect NIC settings will also cause the PC to take a longer time to boot up.

This FAQ has two sections:
Section 1 - NIC Properties for Windows95/98/ME
Section 2 - NIC Properties for Windows2000/XP

Hello I'm trying to connect a Buffalo terastation(storage media) through the internet so that they can store files on it. I have no problem accessing it from anywhere except through a server that passes...

I'm guessing that you have a routing issue caused by the address of your tera server not being on the right subnet. Typically, addresses like 192.168.1.10 will have a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 which will cause problems when you have a statically assigned ip of 222.222.222.222. You would be best off to assign your teraserver within the 192.168.1.x range, but outside of the range dynamically assigned by the router. Typically, you can control which addresses are assigned by the router (say 192.168.1.50 - 192.168.1.100). Just make sure that the tera server is outside this range so that it does not duplicate another device. Make it something like 192.168.1.11 or 192.168.1.222.

Hope this helps - flub

Ftp server

What is the name of the software? Is that an FTP software?
Anyway if you are using DX-E401 Router you can enable DMZ (demilitarized zone) to your PC.

1.access your router configuration page (default ip: 192.168.0.1)
2.go to advanced tab
3.select DMZ
4.select enable then type the ip address of your server pc
5.apply settings

after that have someone try to access the files in your pc.
if the software you installed is ftp software then have them access it by this

ftp://internet_ip

the "internet ip" is the ip address found in the STATUS TAB of your router under the WAN catergory.

If this software you mentioned is using any particular application ports, you will have to open those ports for your server PC.
In that case you will to configure VIRTUAL SERVER. It's the actual term used by dynex. for you to have a general idea how to configure your pc behind your router please go to this link

http://www.dynexproducts.com/skins/skin_1/Topics/Documents/DX-E401_Manual.pdf

Virtual server configuration is in pages 22-23. It has detailed explanation of the terms used.

Hope this helps!
