Question about Gateway MT6840 Notebook
The power cord port won't charge the laptop. I wanted to know how to take the back of the computer off to see and repair the port.
First easy check is to stick a toothpick into the jack to see if the middle pin is loose. If it's not loose, try another power adapter to check just incase. If you dont have one ask around to borrow a universal one. Dont jiggle and wiggle the plug with the power plugged in if it is loose because i've seen shorts happen.
usually plugs are mounted onto the mainboard. To get to the main board, you'd have to take apart everything because everything attatches to the main board. The case, keyboard, heatsinks, speakers, and so on must come off before you'll be able to see the power jack. With parts and labor, it comes close to a new laptop.
