Link light on the modem green or orange

I am trying to connect on my laptop to my wireless network but I am unable to get my cable connection to work. Is the link light on my modem supposed to be green or orange?

The first 4 lights should be gree then the fith orange and should be flickereing on and off fast the last one should be doing nothing

How do i turn wifi off

Locate the Wireless LAN switch located on the front of your computer.
This could be located on the upper row on a laptop it will have the radiation look (((·)))
Make sure its pressed on or off whichever you need.

Move the switch to the right to turn on Wireless connections.

Right-click the network icon located on the system tray next to the clock.
You should see a list of available wireless networks.

Select the network you want to connect to and click "Dis Connect."

Your Motorola Surfboard cable modem must be connected to your home's coaxial cable connection.
Connect the coaxial cable from your cable outlet into the "Input" jack on your cable modem.

If your modem is wireless, it will connect to any computers and wireless devices in your home through the wireless signal sent from the modem.

Wired Internet connections require that you use an Ethernet cable to connect your cable modem to any supported computers and devices.
Understanding the Front Panel

The front panel of your modem is your key to understanding the status of your cable modem.

The front panel features "Power," "Send," "Receive," "Online" and "Link" lights, each of which displays information about your modem.

The "Power" button will display a solid green light when operating normally and will turn off when there is a problem with the power supply.

The "Send" and "Receive" lights will transmit a solid green or blue color when data is being normally transmitted through your modem and will blink when it the modem is scanning for an upstream or downstream connection.

A solid green "Online" light indicates that you are connected to your Internet Service Provider, while no light indicates that the Internet connection in your home is experiencing problems.

A yellow "Link" light indicates that a computer is connected to your modem with an Ethernet connection while a blue light indicates that a high-speed Ethernet connection is being utilized through the modem.

Configuring TCP/IP

The Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol provides the basic foundation for establishing a local network and a connection to the Internet. The TCP/IP can be configured in the "Control Panel" of your Windows computer. Open the "Network and Sharing Center" from the control panel and double-click the "Manage network connections" option. Right-click the network connection displayed and select "Properties," then select Internet Protocol Version 4 and open the TCP/IP properties menu. Select "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS Server address automatically" from the TCP/IP properties menu and click "Ok" to save your TCP/IP settings.

Many technical issues with your cable modem can be resolved by power cycling your modem and the computers and devices connected to it.

To power cycle your modem, unplug it from the power supply for 10 to 15 seconds and reconnect it to the power supply.

Restart all of your connected computers and devices while your modem is power cycling. Problems with the "Send" and "Receive" functions can be the result of a poor signal being sent to your cable modem. Tighten the coaxial cable connection to your modem and contact your internet service provider if problems persist. My laptop had a virus, therefore, my harddrive had to be wipped and reloaded. at this time, i'm unable to sign on to my wirless connection due to not knowing my site key. how do i reset my sitekey?

Use an Ethernet cable to make a "wired" connection from the network-port on your laptop to one of the LAN ports on your wireless router. Then, "login" to the router, and run the "Wireless Network Setup Wizard", to set:
* SSID ("network name")
* encryption-level ('WPA' or better, please)
* password for your network

With those settings, your wireless-adapter should be able to connect.

So that means its working well and connected to the ISP' server. What is your connection? Is it ADSL?
First make sure that all light have the color of green. If they are Flashing with color RED that means the property associated with the light is having a failure.
Here are the description of Colors and Lights.
Modem Light state: Unlit Flashing Red Flashing Green Steady Green
Power Light
Modem is not getting power - no light Modem has failed POST - Red Power is on - Steady Green
Ethernet (2nd Light)
No Ethernet link detected - No light Problem with ethernet port or cable - Flashing Green Modem has detected a successful link to a PC or router - Steady Green
DSL (3rd light)
ADSL sync signal is not detected - Red Modem is trying to synchronize. - Flashing Green Modem has ADSL sync and is ready for PPPoE session traffic - Steady Green.
Internet (4th light)
Modem has given up or isn't configured to initiate the PPPoE session - No Light PPPoE initiation has failed or PPPoE has been terminated. - Red Initiating a PPPoE session to Internet - Flashing Green. Modem is ready for Internet traffic - Steady Green.
Note: This light sometimes not working even if the connection initiated.
Normal DSL traffic flow - Flashing Green. Steady traffic flow - Steady Green.
Solving problems.
Case1: You have to connect your machine to the Modem Via the Network cable. Plug the other side of the cable to your Machine. (Not the modem port. Network card port.). Case2: You have to make sure that you have installed the Network Card drives. To check that you have to use Device Manager. Follow these steps. Hit Windows key with R In the "Run" box type devmgmt.msc In the right hand side check whether the network card is installed. If it has a yellow exclamation mark or a mark with red that means you haven't either installed or its having a device/driver problem.
Case3: If its fine then what you have to do is to check your network settings. Heres how: Since you haven't specified the Operating System I m including the Windows XP method here. Not much difference in other Operating Systems as well.
  • Get the Control Panel.
  • Go to Network and Internet Connections.
  • Go to Network Connections.
  • Check the Local Area Connection.
  • Right Click and check "Status".
  • If it says connected
  • Check the Duration and Speed(100 or 1000Mbps).
  • If the settings are fine go to "Support" Tab.
  • Check whether the Machine has received an IP Address. Which is often in the range of for Siemens Modems/Routers.
  • If you see an IP Address which starts from your network card was unable to pick an IP Address from the DHCP router which runs in the modem. (If you run a DHCP in the machine you have to configure to stop leasing IP Addresses to your machine from the Router/Modem. You can try the "Repair" button below and it will try to Release and Renew your IP. If it fail either you have a problem with your network card or Modem/Router (Could be the cable also).
  • If you still see the IP Address which starts with 192.168 the connection with your Modem is fine.
  • Next: Right Click on the Local Area Connection again.
  • Go to "Properties".
  • Double Click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
  • Check the settings.
  • The settings should be "Obtain IP Addresses Automatically" and "Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically". (But if you know the router's/Modem's IP Address you can configure it and you can give a "Static IP" to your PC as well. It must not be the Router's / Modem's IP and must be in th SAME SUBNET. If router uses you can assign it as
  • Then Apply the Settings and go to the "Status" again and then click on "Details".
  • Except Wins Server all others must be populated with values in 192.168 range. Check the "Default Gateway" Setting. Its very important that you have pointed the machines Default Gateway to the Router/Modem.
  • Final Check:
  • Go to the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) again and click on "Advanced".
  • Check IP Settings (first tab) too make sure DHCP is enabled on you machine.
  • Go to "Options" tab and Check TCP/IP Filtering. Click on properties and make sure that the Filtering is not enabled. If it enabled make sure your network adapter Permits all routers traffic in to the machine.
By following these options will let you surf the internet.
Check for the behaviors of indicators as well.
Case 3 :Browser settings
In the Internet Explorer go to: Tools -> Internet Options ->Connections -> LAN Settings -> Its fine if any box is not checked. Or you can check the "Automatic Detection".
Last thing is If you have a Firewall or Antivirus Suite Please make sure that you are not blocking adapters and traffic/application. You can try to disable Windows Firewall and check whether it works as well.

the modem is already old and obselete try to upgrade the modem. even though the lights on your modem works. try to call ATT because they can run a line test so they can determine if the connection is good or not

I am unable to connect with my wireless laptop

With an Ethernet cable, connect the "wired" port on your laptop to one of the "wired" ports on your router.

Access the router's built-in web-server, and run the "Wireless Networking Setup Wizard", to configure your wireless network.

Call your ISP (Internet Service Provider) -- if they provided the 2WIRE modem to you, they can help you configure it.

Hi, I'm an idiot! PLEASE HELP

you may be suffering from mixed Cat 5 and Cat 6 cabling.
The wiring is slightly different and they don't work well when mixed in routers and modems etc. One or the other will work , but when they're mixed it'll do what you have going on here...

I would recommend wiring everything with cat 6 ethernet cabling. Look on your cable and you will find the labeling on the outer casing.

Best to call up the cable company and go thru the phone may just find that they're having trouble in your area...
They can also send a reset signal to your modem too.
Give em a call..

Adding another computer to network

You can have 4 PCs connecting to your 2 wire 2701hgv or 2700hgv wired or wirelessly. Make sure the DSL light and the internet light is green and lighted up
For wired connection, just plug in the RJ45 cable to the ethernet 1,2,3, or 4 and the other end of the RJ45 cable on your laptop LAN card or network adaptor
For wireless connectivity, SSID is 2wire followed by the last 3 digits of the SN(or serial number) and the WEP key is located at the bottom of the 2wire modem in between 2 bar codes in square brackets. If the WEP key and the SSID was changed before in the modem page, go to the modem page and see what is the latest SSID and WEP key using RJ45 cable connected
