Question about Samsung (SH-S162L/BEBN) DVD RW Burner

3 Answers

I'm out of ideas.

I've checked wiring, run BIOS, set it as a slave, run device manager, just about everything there is to do and I can not find out why my SH-222A won't read any discs; CDs or DVDs.

If you updated the BIOS, what type of board is it. Depending on the type of BIOS, you may need to just change a setting in it. Some BIOSes allow you to select from IDE controllers and RAID controllers.

If the system is set to master and slave and you went through the controllers in the BIOS and it still doesn't recognize, then let me ask you. Does the drive at least get power.

What about trying a different ribbon cable. Is it set to Cable Select, is it 80 pin?

OK I'll try.

So wiring OK BIOS OK (it's recognised there)

Shows in device manager.

As you got into device manager you mut know how to get into the control panel so, put a disc in and go there. Open administrative tools/computer management and select disc management on the left and tell me if it is shown there. It should be shown (on the top right) at the bottom of the list under your HDD's with thef disc in it and layout/type/file system/status Maximising the screen will help as next you look at the lower half .Again it should be at the bottom under the HDD's and should show the size of the cd/dvd you put in.

Check all of the above and post back along with the OS you are using and we'll go from there.

Ok... check BOTH Harddisk PIN settings set as MASTER and your OPTICAL drives PIN settings TO SLAVE....
NOW on the PRIMARY IDE cable your need to connect your Start-up HARDDISK and an OPTICAL C/D...
The SECONDARY Cable would be your SECOND HARDDISK and the DVD drive.... Set also the CMOS setting of these hardwares to AUTO...

Now, everything should work excellent... just remember to set everything right...

Since you mentioned slave, I'm going to assume this is a IDE hard drive (with the 2" wide ribbon cable).
Check the sticker on the back of the hard drive for the correct position to place the jumper on. Often hard drives require different settings depending on whether they're the master, slave, or the only drive on that IDE cable.
Note: generally it's a bad idea to mix optical (CD/DVD) devices and hard drives on the same IDE cable.

Hello im trying to set mysamsung sp8004h harddrive as a slave i dont know the proper pin settings it shows in the bios and device manager what do i do.

If it shows in the BIOS as a "slave", then you have the correct settings. If it does not show, or if the other drive on the same ribbon-cable does NOT show, then you have the wrong setting.

Harddisk not detected in disk management but recognized in bios

Does it show in the devices? If it is, check and see if it is disabled. If not, check the jumper settings on both drives, and check your bios settings.

Can I use this Hard Drive as a slave on my PC ?.

Ofcourse you can, look at the top of the hard drive to find the jumper settings lable, change the jumper so the drive is slave.

Then connect it to your computer with a ide cable, if you have another hard drive on the same cable the other hard drive needs to be set as master, and be preferably on the end of the cable and slave on the center of the cable.

Then check your bios / cmos / cmos setup / computer setup, right when you turn on the computer to see if the hard drive is detected and properly installed.

heres a video on how to use bios

if everything is okay it should show up in windows, if it doesn' then right click on my computer, select manage, then on left side select disk management, you may have to initialize and or partition the disk first before it shows up on my computer.

Thanks and good luck.

Re: lg tower xp install

the boot device setup in the bios, if you set atapi-cd rom as first boot device. then hdd second. and fdd last.
it appears that you have a faulty connection from the IDE ( 40-80 wire cable ) that runs from the motherboard Primary/secondary slot. check the cable goes from motherboard to hard-drive and is connected firmly, also check the jumper blocks ( small white plastic block ) is set to master or slave on both devices ( cd-hard-drive ) if both on same cable set hard-drive to slave and CD rom to master. if they are both set as master or slave, they will conflict with each other.
if you need further help, please mail back.

2 burners on win2000

window 2000 could be a probable cauuse. You could try the following. Update windows by installing the latest hot fixes this would most probably solve the problem if the problem is in windows. if the drives show up in device manager. boot you PC in safe mode and uninstall the drivers of both DVD drives.and reboot normally. If this doesnt work let me know your DVD drive make and model.
