Hi,I would go to the manufactures website, download and reinstall the drivers.

If you updated the BIOS, what type of board is it. Depending on the type of BIOS, you may need to just change a setting in it. Some BIOSes allow you to select from IDE controllers and RAID controllers.

If the system is set to master and slave and you went through the controllers in the BIOS and it still doesn't recognize, then let me ask you. Does the drive at least get power.

What about trying a different ribbon cable. Is it set to Cable Select, is it 80 pin?

So wiring OK BIOS OK (it's recognised there)

Shows in device manager.

As you got into device manager you mut know how to get into the control panel so, put a disc in and go there. Open administrative tools/computer management and select disc management on the left and tell me if it is shown there. It should be shown (on the top right) at the bottom of the list under your HDD's with thef disc in it and layout/type/file system/status Maximising the screen will help as next you look at the lower half .Again it should be at the bottom under the HDD's and should show the size of the cd/dvd you put in.


Check all of the above and post back along with the OS you are using and we'll go from there.
