My destop conects to home network hardwired to di-514. 2 laptops connect to network to the same router only wireless. all computers share internet connection with a usb broadband device (Sprint Sierra Wireless Card). My problem is making this work in general. All wizards seem to point to a dead end. I use win xpp sp3. Fully updated. I can not seem to find my router in my computer, device manager, or network connections. Where should I start?

Contact Sprint and ask them if their usb broadband device supports routers. Sometimes they are not supported for router devices and you need to set up either a LAN or ad-hoc networks.

Good luck.

You will not see your router in any of the places you looked.
Easiest method:
Shutdown your PC and laptops. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC and laptops. The PC and laptops should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider.

Why my d-link wireless limited access all user who want to conecting my network..including my.eventhough i have a key security?

if you don't have internet on the connection, it will tell all connected that access is limited.
Otherwise they are using the wrong key or encryption. I'd need more information about the wireless to help (key type (wep/wpa) etc.

First You will need to remove the network from the preferred network list.
Then check the wireless settings on the router. Is there any computer connected to the router ?If ot then you will need to connect the computer to the router . open the set up page f the router. check the security settings on the router,

D-LINK DI-514 LAN Ports not working

  1. Connect a cable from your PC to one of the four plugs. Not the WAN port.
  2. Setup the wireless the way you want it.
  3. Then give this router a different IP, like 192.168.0.2
  4. Then you have to disable the DHCP server in the router (keep in mind now you have to set your desktop or laptop that is conencted to it to a static IP to still communicate with the router)
  5. Once this is done just plug you existing network into one of the four ports. Not the WAN port.
  6. It will now act as a wirelessa access point.
Althoug this is doable it is not recommended as this router is a pile of **** and the wireless is crappy.

I would suggest a dedicated wireless access point.

Short connection and then no connection

This is a problem with the firmware of the router, so the best way to resolve this is to flash or update the firmware of this router then after that reset the router by pressing the reset button for about 15 seconds so the firmware update will take effect....

Wireles conection problem

I've run into this issue with USB wireless network cards from DLink, Linksys, and Netgear. For me, the issue was with the USB ports on the PC and not having enough power for the device, the connection would stay live for a random amount of time and then all of a sudden it would die (same thing would happen when resuming from hibernation or standby). I added a PCI card with a powered USB hub in it and it solved my problem.

Hope this info helps!
