It sounds like your hard drive has failed, IE.. the clicking/tapping sound. You could have the hard drive tested to be sure. You could swap out the hard drive to another machine and try it.

I'm getting a message saying that my hard drive can't be found

this is an easy one, your hard drive has failed this is why it does not show up, I am suprised that you dont hear clicking noise when trying to access the drive. if you have another drive around try to connect that one just to see if you give different error message but I am %100 you have a failed drive, I used to work at gateway/Quanta and have serviced thousands of machines with the same problem, good luck

Gateway laptop message PXE-E61 test failure, check cable PXE-MOF:exiting Broadcom PXE ROM. No bootable device

Your system is trying to boot from someplace other than your hard drive (Probably a LAN).

Turn the computer off and restart it, but watch the screen for which key it says to hit to Change the Boot Sequence or Boot Order, then hit that key. You have to hit the key when you see the message or it will not work and you will have to reboot and start over. Select the Hard Drive as your boot device and see if it boots up. If so, you will have to do this everytime you boot up, but you can make it a permanent change so that you won't have to do this each time you boot.

To make it a permanent change, turn the laptop off, then turn it on and watch the screen to see which key it says to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup. Hit that key when you see the message or it will not work and you will have to reboot and start over. Once you get into the Bios or System Setup look for the Boot Sequence or Boot Order and go to it and make the ddc/cd drive as your 1st and the Hard Drive as 2nd. This is the normal boot order but you have to make sure nothing is in the dvd/cd drive when you boot (such as a music cd or a movie dvd) otherwise the system will try to boot from it and you will get a error message. This also allows you to fix your computer in case it can't boot from the hard drive for some reason. Save the changes and exit out of the Bios or System Setup and reboot.

Gateway nv7915u error message i'm getting is pxe-e61 media test failure check cable pxe-m0f exiting broadcom pxe rom no bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key but when i do that nothing...

The error PXE-E61: Media test failure usually means the hard diskhas failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controller is faulty.First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.Next - to check if the harddrive is faulty, remove the hard drive and insert it into an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a workingcomputer's USB port. If this computer cannot see itas an USB mass storage device and you cannot open the various folders and fileson this drive, then this confirms the hard drive is faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

I have a dell dimension 3000 series desktop and when I turn it on it does not get passed POST and tells me the following: primary drive 0 not found primary drive 1 not found gives me the option of F1...

This normally means that the Hard Drive is not recognized, and most likely can be attributed through a crashed hard drive. If it's not POSTing, then I think you need to look for loose cords/cables as well. That can cause the hard drive to not be recognized.

I have a gateway 6010GZ laptop it turns on and the cd drive spinns but thats it

turn on the power , tapping delete to bring up the BIOS
on the
main page look to see if the hard drive is being
detected everything that is in the computer ( main comp-
onents ) can be seen in the BIOS goto the boot tab make
sure the detected HDD is
booting up first not the optical drive , when finished press
F10 hit yes to save and see if the computer will boot up
I have 4 Gateway notebook computer , they are very good notebooks however they are notebooks and notebooks are
prone to needing repair tweaks constantly every once in
awhile the sound just stops working like if you switch from headphones to speakers , all Gateway notebooks come with
a reinstall drivers utility , Goto start/programs/gateway recovery center from that utility you can reinstall drivers programs and
many other default setups . there is only 3 things that can make
a computer not turn on 1. the hard drive 2. the video card 3. the
RAM , in BIOS you will see which one of these components are
not working .

What does ' a disk read error occurred press ctr alt del to restart, everytime i do it it gives me the same error??

You could have a hard drive problem. To check the hard drive boot up to the Windows XP cd in repair mode. At the C prompt type: chkdsk /r
This will start a program called Check Disk that will evaluate your hard drive and attempt to fix any errors. it Check Disk is successful it will complete 100% and return to a C prompt. You can then attempt to reboot. If Check Disk finds unrecoverable errors you will need to purchase a new hard drive and rebuild the OS.

PC Will Not Boot

hi there
i do agree with you about the ribbon cables please make verry sure that they are connected right ie set as master or slave also make sure that the ribbon is tight and then make sure that you boot into bios and see if the computer can recognize the drive and see if it is set to master or slave and see if there are any jumpers on the hard drive that match with what bios is telling you cause if the bios is set to master and you have the jumper set to slave it will not work

Non system message

Your boot sequence is probably not set to boot from the Hard drive first. Remove any floppy disks/CD's from their drives and try to boot it.

If you are still getting the message then you have files that are corrupt on your hard drive.

System recovery

It sounds like the boot sector on your main hard drive is corrupted. You should have created an emergency boot disk when you first purchased the computer. Since you don't have the oroginals you should borrow a system CD from a friend and boot up that way and try to a recovery. Selecting F8 during the bootup sequence allows one to start if Safe mode, but I believe (I usually run Linux) you still need the boot sector on the main hard drive to be valid in order for this to work. The F1 gets you to the Bios screen (?) where you can select the boot sequence (hard drive, CD, or floppy first/second/third), among other things. Hopefully someone with more Windows experience than I can assistance better than I can, I just thought I'd throw that out there.
