The router can have several different "methods" for making a connection.
You must have configured your computer to ask for a certificate from the router,
but you probably have NOT configured your router to hand-out a certificate.

Reconfigure the router, to use 'WPA' or 'WPA2' method, and set a pass-phrase or a password,
and reconfigure your computer to request a 'WPA' connection, and the request for "certificates" will vanish.

Find pass key for our lap top for the family network.

Log into your router's web interface, if possible through a computer connected to the router by cable, by starting an internet browser and navigatng to its maintenance IP address, usually set by many manufacturers to or An authentication request will come up. As you haven't speciffied your router model, there are routers whose both user name and password fields are set to 'admin'. Other routers use 'admin' as user name only, requiring the password field to be left empty. Once you get into the router's web interface, go to the wireless settings, and change the wireless passphrase to a new one of your choice. Make sure to change the other devices, which use to connect to the router, to the same new passphrase.
If you need further details, please, provide your router model and manufacturer.
Hope you are able to sort your problems out.

I cannot set WPA under Windows XP... help please...

WPA usually has two formats for encryption. They are TKIP and AES.

Please make sure you get the right type of encryption from your router, the correct SSID for your wireless network and the correct WPA pass code.

In Windows XP, you need to go to

Start/Control Panel/Network Connections
Double click on your Wireless Adapter
Enable it if it requests for you to Enable it
If not, then a window will appear showing you your Wireless Adapter
Click on Wireless Connections
Select the appropriate SSID that you're working with in your Preferred Networks list
Click Properties, then a new window will appear
This window will show you the properties of this particular SSID
Here you can set your pass code and the type of security you've got set up in your router. Since it is WPA then you can select WPA from the drop down box and then select either TKIP or AES.
Make sure you've got the right settings selected to match your router. Or else you will not be able to communicate between your computer and your router.

Hope this helps. Don't forget to vote for me. Let me know how you made out.
