Question about Apple iPhone Smartphone
Hi.. my name is johnny. i recently bought an iphone.. and activated it.. now.. for some reason it wont charge up.. its just a blank, dark screen.. when i connect it to the wall charger, or the computer,, a battery sign pops up with this minimal red line, and it says CHARGING... PLEASE WAIT.... thats all it does.. nothing else,, ive tried to reset it in all possible ways, home and power button.. it just wont work.. ive charged for a few days now.. and thats all it does... when i disconnect the plug from the phone, the battery sign just fades into black.,, like it was dead.. showing nothing on the screen.. touuched all buttons.. no response....!!! im going crazy.. please help.. i bought it oct. 1,, people tell me to take it back to apple, but im not in the U.S... a friend told me that apple does a hard reset on the phone, not a soft reset.. please, if you know how to hard reset this ibrick , please, please let me know... thankz ....
I had this exact problem too - same as the first two posts anyway.
It seems to be just a software issue and was easily resolved for me with a full power off and reboot. Here is how to do that safely.
Plug in the phone using the wall socket charger, leave it for a few hours to get a charge (i know it doesn't look like its charging). Later, press the on/off button. The battery icon appears with just a thin red line. Let it go back to black. Then press the the on/off button and the menu button simultaneously for about 8 seconds. A red button should appear on the screen with a question asking if you want to power off the phone. Say yes. (I think it was a slide bar, but can't remember now.) Wait a few secs while the phone powers off. Then remove the power plug from the phone. Now reinsert the power plug. After a few (worrying) seconds of nothing, a white Apple logo appears in the middle of the screen, a few more seconds and the iphone main menu appears. No data has been lost, no settings are altered, and best of all, the battery shows a full charge and seems to be back to normal again.

Hi the way to restore it if when you plug it in to computer is as follows,
turn of phone fully by pressing and holding both power and select buttons until phone completely turns off , about 8 seconds, right now open itunes on your computer, now push and hold select button (round one with square symbol on it on front of phone) whilst holding this button plug in snc cable , i tunes will grab phone and make it visible ni itunes (this takes approx 6 seconds) now you can release select button and continue to restore iphone in itunes, hope this helps some of you.

Ok people, I Had the exact same problem, read every post I could find till my eyes bled... But what I did, and by no means was it magical, I'll see if you can solve it as we go....but first people suggested.... push the right buttons, in the right sequence, try the USB and reboot computer, some with the iphone on ,off, unhooked, hooked up.. try a wall outlet, try a car charger ect... some worked some didnt, I started thinking.. then some guy even said he took the phone apart, took the battery out, charged the battery and put it back in and it worked...now that would be fun after a night out ...Right there it dawned on me..Dont get me wrong, I tried all those suggestions with the exception of the opening of the iphone, looking on the ground for that little screw that went flying..method... what dawned on me was, that...very simply, that dust/lint/dirt gathering catchall opening on the bottom of the iphone could stand a little crud removal... after all, we all blew into our sega/nintendo games to insure a good connection when it froze up...sooo, I cleaned my iphone, and heard that magical iphone chirp...I also removed a pound of dust (I need a maid)... from the ihome I use...it prob wasnt always charging cleanly and fully, and perhaps when it runs down to "dead" that the draw needed from a computer charge may be too much for a USB ? or it freezes. and needs a good jolt...so those are my 2 cents, more like 50... good luck .. remember, there is a chance of an internal issue...or dead battery, but usually you'll get a few signs days/weeks before, this iphone just stopped accepting a charge an hour ago.....till now....

Turn on iTunes, plug in usb cable, now hold in top and home buttons till screen goes blank. Plug in cable to phone and pc, leave top button go, but keep finger on home button, iTunes will open phonem now follow prompts for recovery, mine said it wouldnt recover, but it works fine! Please note, I have already contacted my wireless network and have a replacement 3gs on its way, I suggest you do the same!

Hey everyone. I also have had the same problem and i have tried lots of things to try and combat these situations... but the one that has worked for only by trial and error was to make sure i plug the charger into my phone before i plug it into the wall. I have never had a problem until my phone ran out of juice..... The manual says to use your phone until the battery runs right down and shuts off.. I did that and when I went to charge it I couldn't get it to charge... So my last resort was to charge my phone with my laptop with the same method as I typed above no hard reset or special sequence of buttons to push. Just plug it into the phone first and then the wall or computer. all that that does is tells the phone to either prepare to sync or not...

EVERYONE - I AM ROAMING AND TRAVELLING, SO THIS HAPPENED FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER WITH A 3G - TOTAL NIGHTMARE.
I DID THE HOLDING MENU BUTTON PLUS HOLDING POWER BUTTON TOGETHER THREE TIMES AND EVENTUALLY THE APPLE SIGN CAME BACK, THE PHONE RECOGNIZED THE CHARGE AND STARTED WORKING AGAIN AFTER HOURS OF NOTHING.
THIS WAS A SIMPLE FIX AND THANK GOODNESS FOR THIS FORUM! ALL MY INFO WAS RETAINED.
SO HOLD POWER BUTON AND MENU BUTTON AT SAME TIME, HOLD DOWN FOR A LONG TIME ( COUNT TO 10 OR MORE) UNTIL THE APPLE LOGO COMES BACK AND THE PHONE STARTS TO CHIRP AGAIN.
I DID NOT TRY THE OTHER SUGGESTIONS, AND THIS WORKS WITH BOTH WALL SOCKET CHARGING AND COMPUTER CHARGING.
so annoying that the phone even did that--- my blackberry never used to act up like this!

All I can say is Captain Ron should be getting a monthly check from iPhone. You solved my problem by telling me to blow into the end of my phone. That is nothing short of brilliant, magical, unbelievable. The AT&T store couldn't even offer one solution except call the warranty office. Geezzzz. Thanks Ron.

My phone will almost reset to factory settings then it says it was restored but just goes back to the red battery and lightning bolt. what do i do???
Posted on Aug 18, 2009
This seems to be a common problem, but thanks to a post on another forum it's solved. Phew.
Plug your iPhone into your computer with a USB cable. Reboot the computer. Give it a mo'. Voila. It's a nasty scary flaky bug but happily easily fixed.

Thank goodness I found this page. Basically, the night before my phone was at 61% battery level when it suddenly died. The next day, the red lightning bolt appeared (which actually meant the battery was empty-drained out....). I plugged my iphone into my laptop and connected to itunes. About 20-30min later the white Apple logo just suddenly appeared (I had been pressing both the on/off and select button a couple of times earlier). Then the iphone menu screen appeared. =D The battery level was at 5% then and now it is still connected on the laptop to fully charge it.

Just let it charge for while i wont show it charging but just leave it connected and the take the sim card out for a few second it should show a full battery charge now""""""""""""""

I had numerous battery problems, and after trying everything I came up with the simple solution.
Apparantly a faulty SIM card can do almost anything. I replaced my SIM and suddenly get great battery life each charge, faster internet, no dropped calls and no locking up screens.

To do A hard Reset you have to hold the power and home button for about 10 minutes straight.

Honestly this solved my iphone no-charging problem and it is straightforward. 1. make sure no timers/alarms are set on the phone 2. plug charge cable into the wall plug 3. now plug that into the wall 4. connect iphone (phone should be on, but in sleep mode). I swear to you it works even though it sounds funny.

If itunes won't recognize the phone, try what I did when I had that problem: Go to apple's website, download itunes (even if you already have it AND it's up to date), and install itunes....don't know why it worked for me...but it did. It has worked for many others too from what I've seen on the interweb.

Last night i plugged my iPhone 3GS into the wall to charge it and the battery level was around 50% ish, i unplugged this morning and realised it was only 94% and thought that was unusual, so i unplugged and plugged in again and i get the message "charging is not support with this accessory" i think, surley not, this is the standard apple charger that came with the cable and it has been charging my iPhone for nearly i year now........ i have tried all of the above solutions, turn it off and on again, clean it etc etc etc, nothing seems to work and i am still getting the error message, this is really doing my head in now, can anybody PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My iphone wont charge from lap top or wall charger

I have had this same problem several times. After rebooting, unplugging & plugging etc., in the past I have been lucky. This time however nothing worked. I logged on here and tried every solution over and over. Finally, I plugged the phone to the MacBook Pro, pulled up iTunes and hit restart. I then held the menu and start on the phone for at least 1 minute, maybe more. I'm back! My suggestion to those who solve their problem is NEVER let the battery go dead. Thanks to all who posted, as I'm not sure which but one of them worked.

If you get a charging symbol it's probably just a defective battery. Bring it to the apple store to see if you get a replacement through them. If you can't, there are third party iPhone repair services, that will fixed it for cheap. Also, I found an DYI iphone repair guide, so you can do it yourself too, not that difficult. Part is available on ebay.

None have worked for me, can anyone tell me if replacing the battery will solve the problem? Guarantee has expired and I am just holding on for iphone 4.0 ebay has plenty of cheep options but I was hoping to save opening the iphone myself and changing the battery for a last resort

None of these methods have worked for me but my phone seems to have a worse issue. When I plug it into my computer I get an error screen that says "USB overcurrent notice!" Also when I plug my phone into my car charger I hear a hissing noise and the charger light dims. It sounds like my phones trying to draw more volts than standard. Has anyone else had such an issue? If so are there and solutions?

To have a little influence on your loading of the battery is to take out the battery and clean dry the contacts and use some little silicon grease film on the contacts that fitts the battery , the same as on some contacts of clocks what can have fauleterings by moisture to know that in summer you wareing some clothesand the change on humid environment and sweat it will protect the life of battery.

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Try to find a good one.

This happened to me before i was terrified! what you need to do is either get your usb lead and change it with the original cable and put it into the plug and try it. if this doesnt work then get a charger [eurospar 5 euro]. this worked for me hope this helps.

Within the hardware breakdown front, it is also which there are a issue with the USB cable you're serves to connect the apple iphone for your computer or even power-adapter. The only method to check this really is to obtain entry to another apple iphone cable and use that certain rather. If you discover that it must be your own USB cable which broken, you can fix it by your Apple repairs.

Hi all i had this problem and this worked for me.
1. Plug your iphone into your PC with itunes open.
2.Give your PC a restart with your iphone still connected
3.Once your PC has restarted open itunes and your apple logo on your iphone should pop up.
Hope this helps

If you see the charging log, but it doesn't power up, it's most likely a battery issue. Take it to the apple store if they don't give you are replacement you can replace it yourself. Here's aguide on how to disassemble an iPhone. Maybe a tech savy friend can do it for you. If you want to have somebody else do it for you there are third party iPhone Repair Services.

Just today my iPhone had dropped its charged to the point where it had only 1/4 left in red with battery image on face of phone with the inability to unlock, shutdown or anything. It was frozen! I tried pressing down on power button and the home screen button w/o any results. I tried charging my phone using a cable plugged to my laptop after having it charged from the wall outlet for over an hour. This wall unit was a universal plug so I thought after hours later that I should use my Apple wall/ usb cable for better results. No results!!! But guess what worked????? Connecting it to my iHome radio .....it actually began the process for it to be unlocked and I was able to see my home screen!!! Wierd....but estactic of the results and I can see that the battery red level is increasing so that soon it will be fully charged.
Hope this helps!
