Re: won't play discs.
You Laser must be burned out. Since it doesn't play any discs, I believe you have a melted laser. In this case, your disc should not spin either. You need a new laser. Click on "Repair Directory" at the bottom of this screen. Then click on "Video Game consoles" in the next Screen. Pick a good Repair shop dedicated to Playstations. You can probably get a good deal on getting your Playstation working top notch again. Good Luck

The eye in the tray might be scratched or damaged. This happens with age and the way the Playstation has been setting as well. It is more likely to wear out faster when it is standing upright. Try to play a movie or a game with the playstation in the horizontal way. If not the eye could possibly be damaged beyond repair.
i had this problem with my xbox and its due to either the laser or the magnet within the disc drive that holds the disc in place. the magnet may have come loose which mean u can either open the drive up to try and reposition it, or replace the drive all together. my suggestion would be to send the xbox to microsoft if under warranty or send it to a third party company to see if they can fix it. buying a new drive for your xbox involves some very complex firmware flashing which is not advised
when this happens you will need to buy a cleaning disk from staples. when you have the disk, insert it in the x-box. when you've done that play track number two. this process will adjust the eye so that the brushes on the disk will wipe the dirt or ather stuff from thy eye.
Try a laser cleaning disk, you may have debris on the laser head itself.
Also try different disk formats, such as Games-Music-DVD And bluray.
