Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
Cannot get Lexmark X5340 driver to install on Windows Vista. I have spent hours on the phone with a Lexmark tech and a Dell tech. Microsoft of course was no help AT ALL... Unless of course I wanted to pay them $79.. I have tried installing from the disk and from the download from the Lexmark website. When try to print it says problem communicating with printer. Checked device manager and there is a splat on the Lexmark 5300 series which is listed in other devices and not in usb devices. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated... This has been giving me headaches for 2 weeks now..
OK I'll give this a go but you may have been led down this path already by the Techies.
Disconnect the printer from the PC
Go to the control panel/printers and faxes and right click on the printer and uninstall.
Just in case your initial driver download was corrupted go to the Lexmark site again and re--download the drivers and software.
Install the drivers and when prompted connect the printer to the PC.(make sure the printer is turned on beforehand) . The printer should then be detected and you should get a message (after several mins) that it is installed and ready to use. Don't do anything else until the lexmark install tells you it's finished.
Next install any software you downloaded (if any was available)
When finished restart your PC.
Hopefully all is OK but being neither a Lexmark user nor Vista user I cannot guarantee it and apologise if you've already been down this road before.
It works for me though on other OS and printers.

I've had similiar problems with customers printers in the shop. Generally I have found that if I uninstall all the Lexmark drivers and associated software and the USB drivers, then goto Start, run and type CMD (you'll need to have admistrator rights). At the prompt type SFC /scannow. Have the orginal Vista disk handy because it will probably need to install USB drivers. Once this has completed reinstall the drivers that came with the printer (not online). This should solve your problem, now you did eliminate any chance of viruses, malware or spyware interfering?

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
