Question about HP Pavilion dv1000 Notebook

My laptop wont completely turn on. It receives one screen that displays "Esc" to change boot order, "F10" to enter SETUP, and "F12" to boot from LAN all in the bottom left corner and when the Microsoft XP operating software starts to run it shortly changes to a blue screen that says: A problem has been detected so windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. Kernel_Data_INPage_Error If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen follow these steps: -Check to make sure that any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need. -If the problem continues, disable or remove newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or restore components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced startup options, and then select Safe Mode. -Technical Information xxx Stop 0:0000007A (0:E16F37B8 x 0C000009 x 0BC60000 x followed by differing sets of numbers each time the screen appears) -Beginning Dump of physical memory. -Phyical memory Dump Complete. -Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance. The problem is that this screen only shows for 1 second and then the screen goes blank. This made it a long process of getting the whole message, but I got it. This also makes it hard to do any of the things the message says to do. What do you think I should do?

Boot to the Setup, run the hard drive diagnostics that most HPs have there. The symptoms you describe indicate a possible hard drive failure. If the HDD passes diags, try booting to the XP CD, then R to enter recovery console. Once at the C: Prompt Run CHKDSK /R and see if system will boot normally afterward.
If the HDD fails diagnostics, then it will need to be replaced.

Hello

The Stop 0x7A message indicates that a page of kernel data was not found in the paging (virtual memory) file and could not be read into memory. This might be due to incompatible disk or controller drivers, firmware, or hardware. First I would do a Windows repair, then followed by a Windows reinstall if needed. If these work then you should be done. If there's bad hardware then the Windows reinstall should find it by not allowing the install to work. Try the Windows repair first and then do a reinstall if needed.

Have you installed any new hardware, an external HDD for example?

Same goes for software\porgrammes etc.

If the answer is no then try booting into safe mode by pressing F4 before the blue screen appears (you can do it several times during the boot process) and see if it will boot then. If successful then uninstallany recent progrmmes (ie the last one before the problem) and/or run an antivirus scan and then reboot.

If you still get a blue screen after this the boot into safe mode again and go to the control panel/add remove programmes and uninstall the last windows update you received (the date will be shown) and reboot.

If successful then immediately go to windows update for the latest updates and install them as the problem should be solved.

Failing the above I can only suggest a re-install of the system as it is not a fault with your notebook but the OS..

It is a clear case of memory dumping. when ur computer is booting up keep pressing F8 and you will get option to start the windows in safe mode. start the window in safe mode and check if any drivers are melfunctioning and if possible just change the slot of your RAM. It works most of the time, atleast worked for my and a few of my friend's computer and try to keep the CPU from humid atmosphere.

How to change setting in bios to boot from cd drive"?"

you usually dont have to change the boot order to boot from a cd. the bios should check the cd rom before booting from the hdd. However, if that isnt the case, you can always change the boot order.

go to the bios settings while u turn your laptop on. (It should be "esc" for HP. a message will be displayed at the bottom of the screen indicating the key. if not, try esc, f10, f11, f12. either one of them should work).

go to the boot order settings (May have a different name- boot settings/ boot priority settings/ advance boot options etc.).

How to get to boot chooer on tne m700 starts

Hi.

  1. Turn on the computer. When the Compaq logo displays, press F10. Or,
  2. During Power On Self Test (POST), and after the memory check completes, press F10 as soon as you see a small white square flashing on the top right corner of the screen.
  3. In the computer setup, use the right arrow to move the selection to the Advanced menu.
  4. Use the down arrow to move the selection down to Boot options, and press Enter. The Boot options menu pops up with four boot order options.
  5. Use the down arrow to move the selection.
  6. Press the left arrow to change the order of Notebook.
  7. Press F10 to accept the change.
  8. Press ESC to jump back File menu, and then move the selection down to "Save changes and exit".
  9. Press Enter. If asked to save changes and exit, press F10.
On some laptops you can change the boot order by tapping the F12 key as the computer starts up.

My dell Latitude E6500 laptop will only turn on and load then will display a black screen. i tried to reboot it but all it does is go back to the black screen and has a "_" sign.

check to see if there is a disk in the cd/dvd drive also make sure you dont have any extras connected to it like usb connections.. have you tried entering setup or bios by pressing one of the command keys at initial boot? keys are usually one of the following ( esc f1 f2 f10 or f12) also have you tried to boot it in safe mode? (f8) also if you can enter the bios settings and check to make sure your hard drive is not disabled from boot order... usually the cause of this blinking white line is one of the above...i hope this solves your problem

Boot Priority on Dell Latitude 100L
  1. Turn On Your PC
Have you ever noticed the messages that pop up on the screen as soon as you turn on your PC? These messages tell you a key combination you can press to enter "Setup" or the "BIOS." Watch your screen and see if you can read what keys to press.
  2. Press the Keys to Enter Setup Mode
If you did not see a message telling you what keys to press, try tapping the following possibilities as you turn on the machine:
    • Esc
    • F2
    • F12
    • F10
    • F1
After pressing Esc or other key, you will most likely see instructions telling you how to enter "Setup Mode". Follow those instructions.
tip.gif On some computers, you must hold down the key before you press the power button to turn on the computer. For example, if you are converting a Toshiba laptop to a Linux Workstation, you must hold down the Esc key and then press the power button. The computer then asks you to press F1, and you can then set the "Boot Priority."
  3. Using the Arrow Keys, Choose the "Boot," "Boot Order," or "Boot Priority" Option
The menu of choices you see will be different for different kinds of computers. Remember that the choice you want is the "Boot" order or "Boot Priority." On some computers, this is called the "Start Up Options" or "Start Up Sequences." You are going to change where the PC will look for boot information when it starts up. (CD-ROM, HARD DRIVE/HDD, LAN, FLOPPY, USB). If you wish to boot from your Hard drive, then select it as your First Priority.
  4. Using the instructions on the screen, save your settings and start up your PC. The PC must boot from the HDD. Regrds

Setup to boot from CD

Hi there.
To change the boot order to the CD drive you will need to access the bios, to do this you will need to restart the pc and hit either Esc or Del as the pc starts up, once in the bios change the boot order to the CD drive as the first boot device, save the changes and exit the bios, the computer will restart and boot from the CD drive.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Unable to get to CMOS using any of the 3 methods

This machine is one of the first "legacy free" models which means there are no BIOS options to change. All settings and resources must be assigned by the OS.
For details, please check the "legacy free" FAQ on MS Knowledge base.
If you are trying to access the BIOS to change boot order so that you can boot from a CD, hold down the 'c' key during POST/boot. This will case your laptop to boot from CD-ROM.
