Question about Hoover Vacuums

1 Answer

Hoover air steerable, dirt sitting on top of filter, not entering dist cup.

When I first got the vacuum, all the dirt would be swiveling around in the dust cup. Now, no dirt is entering the cup, it is all accumulating on top of the filter.

SOURCE: blows dust and dirt out of brush area

Did you make sure to cut all the strings, hair, etc. out of the brush attachment on the bottom? Look in the corners too to make sure none has gotten stuck on the sides that needs to be cut out.

SOURCE: Vacuum shuts off

It sounds like the hose from the bottom part is plugged. The motor has a high temperature protection that will shut the motor off if it overheats but will come back on once it cools. The motor will overheat if any restriction of airflow occurs. If the overload sensor reacts too many times, it will eventuall start to shut off before it should, so you should address the problem asap. Check the area behind the roller and the hose leading up to the connection to the attachment hose for blockage. Also, make sure you are not setting the machine height adjust too low. This will make the bottom plate sit down too close and cause a restriction in air flow to the motor.

My vacuum blows air instead

My vacuum blows air instead of sucking air. I have a dirt devil swivel guide. I got something stuck in the brush spinner, got it out...but now the vacuum doesn’t **** stuff up anymore.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
Normally if your vacuum has a round belt you may have your belt on backwards, please reverse the belt and the suction will return also you may have a clog in the tube leading up to the bag or dirt cup would be anther reason for the blowing instead of suction. This is not covered under the factory warranty. Feel free to contact your local vacuum dealer for questions.
So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

This model requires the lower end of the hose to be installed into the base unit to pick up the dirt. If it is properly installed, I would check the belt and also look for a blockage. The normal life span of a belt is about 9-12 months. your belt # 40201190 2 pk

Hoover troubleshooting

Hello! The umbrella tube is a stationary part, it does not rotate. The dirt that enters in the dirt cup spins around the umbrella tube. If no dirt is entering into the dirt cup this can mean there is a blockage either in your hoses and/or your filters. Try these quick trouble shooting steps below.

1. Remove the dirt cup canister from the vacuum. Twist off the dirt cup lid.
2. Remove the primary foam filter. Hold filter under running water until water runs clear. Allow 24 hours to air dry. If the filter is really dirty it may need to be replaced.
3. Slide the Hepa filter out. Tap the filter against the trash can until dirt stops falling. Replace the Hepa filter. (Do not wash)
4. Remove the hose from both ends. Use a broom stick to gently loosen and clear any clogs from hose.
5. Use a wooden spoon or something similar to loosen and remove any clogs from the lower hose. Hope this helps!

If the filter is clogged would it quit working

Hi there! If the filter is clogged this will cause the vacuum to lose suction and possibly shut-off. Below are instructions to checking and cleaning your filters.

1. Remove the dirt cup. Twist off the dirt cup lid.
2. Remove the filter cartridge from dirt cup.
3. Separate the foam and cartridge filters. Wash foam filter under running. Allow 24 hours to air dry outside the vacuum.
4. Tap the excess dirt out of Hepa filter. Hepa filter may also be washed. Allow 24 hours to air dry.
5. Check the secondary filter by removing the filter cover from base. Rinse the foam filter under running water until it runs clear. Allow 24 hours to air dry.
6. The red baffle tube inside of the dirt cup is apart of the filtration of the vacuum and needs to be cleaned as well. Twist out the baffle tube by turning 1/4 turn clockwise. Remove any hair or debris wrapped around baffle tube. Baffle tube can be rinsed if needed. Allow to dry thoroughly.

If the filters are too dirty they may need to be replaced. With regular maintenance the filters should be replaced about once a year. Follow the links below to order replacement filters for your UH20020.

It runs but not pick up dirt in cup

Hello! If the dirt is not entering into the dirt cup this could mean there is a clog in the vacuum or a filter that needs to be cleaned or replaced. Check that the brushes are still spinning. The vacuum has a brush-roll shut-off pedal on the right side of the cleaner if you are standing behind it. Below are simple instructions for checking your vacuum for clogs.

1. Remove the dirt cup. Twist off the dirt cup lid.
2. Remove the filter cartridge from dirt cup.
3. Separate the foam and cartridge filters. Wash foam filter under running. Allow 24 hours to air dry outside the vacuum.

My hoover Windtunnle model U5781-900.turns off while in use. After sitting for about 30 min it will work again for about 10 min and then shut off agian.

This is a result of the motor overheating. Try cleaning the filter above the dirt cup. Remove the dirt cup and right above should be a grey plastic cover. Slide the lock to get to the filter. Once you clean the filter, allow it dry and place everything back the way it was. This should allow the vacuum to work much longer.
