Tractor has been sitting for awhile, transmission

Tractor has been sitting for awhile, was running fine last year when parked , charged the battery , engine turned over just for a second and stopped , connected jumper cables but no change.Transmission is out of gear, motor will not turn over and I can't get the tractor to move even when trying to pull it with my truck with the clutch pushed in. It acts like it is locked in gear ....any ideas?????

Old oil in motor & may be too level too low aswell
condensation or moisture has probably got to the cylinder bores & bearings etc!
my guess would be it has locked up !
try lubricting the cylinders & rocking the cranckshaft as this can sometimes free them up
but i doubt if it will be in any condition to use even if you get it freed up & maybe even started again!!
best bet would be to strip it down & recondition it!
Cheers Rob

Craftman 18 hp won't start with key

Check Battery. If headlight equipped turn key to headlight on position and see if headlights are lit. No light dead battery dead tractor,

Charge battery. If after charging weak or no start forget the battery and get new, Life of battery is two to three years,

If battery good make sure that parking brake set and blades are not engaged. Safety lockout will prevent tractor from cranking. The tracker has a safety interlock on the seat that requires a body warm or cold sitting on the seat if the parking brake is not set. The seat switch is known to fail. Try bouncing on the seat?

OK if battery OK and seat is sat or park brake set we can assume the safety interlock circuit is disabling the start circuit.

Simplicity zero turn electrical problems

charge the battery not hooked up to the mower let it sit overnight and try again the battery might just be died they only last a couple years put a volt meter on the battery when off then start it and watch the battery voltage should be around 14 volts running the pto clutch draws the most thats why it shuts off first the ign doesn't take any the carb needs very little

I have a 2004 Honda Siverwing. It has been sitting for 2 years. Can the battery be charged or do I have to buy a new one

You can try charging the battery. It will not hurt anything to try. Batteries generally only last two years or so. It may charge and be okay for awhile or it may charge and not hold the charge for more than a day or two. It may simply not take a charge. I would get a new battery just for the peace of mind. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

17.5 hp 42" deck Sears tractor. Parked it in the shed after last mowing, everything was fine. Went to mow yesterday and tractor will not drive plus I have no brake....what happened? Belts are fine, gear...

If the engine is running normally and your drive belt is fine then the input to the transmission is OK you just have no power output from the transmission. Usually those transmissions give you some signs of failure such as won't go up inclines or the top speed is a bit low. What I would do is first check the linkage from the forward/reverse lever to make sure it is moving a corresponding shaft on the transmission itself. If that is good then I would check the fluid level on the transmission itself. This could well require removing it from the tractor. Often the brake pedal is connected to a small disc on the transmission. While you are checking the shifter input to the transmission, you may want to follow the brake pedal rod back and see if anything is broken or disconnected.

It sounds as though you are losing power (electrical power); see if charging the battery fully allows it to run longer or if charging the battery helps.

How is your charging system? Sounds to me like it's not charging your battery, so it runs until the battery cannot support the ignition load.

2 year old craftsman 42" deck tractor runs fine for 15 minutes then sputters and dies. Will start, run 2-3 minutes, die again. Leave sit will run for 20 minutes.

if it restarts immediately, check the vent in the gas cap for restriction. also, the solenoid on the bottom of the carburetor may be sticking or getting weak. if you have to let it sit for awhile before it retarts, the ignition module may be breaking down when it heats up. i'd bet on the gas cap or solenoid though

Craftsman 19.5 riding mower starts runs quits no power

When you let it sit did you remove all the fuel or add a additive? If you did not then I would recommend that you remove all the fuel and add brand new fuel to your system. Gasoline only last for about 3 to 4 months before it will start to go bad and this sounds like your problem

My tractor cuts out and dies, then with a recharge, it runs.

Not likely, if the battery is any good you should get several hours of run time before it dies. More likely low oil pressure cut off switch, check level or change oil if it's been awile. Or possibly an overheat cuttoff swith, check airlow and coolant if it has a radiator.
