hooked rugs produce the highest amount of friction opposing the brush rotation, which can over heat the drive motor. try using a height setting that raises the brush so that it barely touches the pile. If this issue has been going on for some time, you may need to replace the drive motor.

Have you checked the belt? You can do so by removing the bottom plate from the power head. Once removed, check the belt. If broken or worn, it needs replaced.
An instruction video for replacing the belt can be found on the below link.

While using the power mate rug part I caught a small rug and the vacuum would no longer pick-up .

Check to see if there is a reset button on the head. This protects the machine for times like you described. When something jms up the reset button will turn ofdf th machine. Simply push the reset. Hope this helps, Chris

My DC17 animal vacuum makes a sound like a motorcycle running when the roller brush is lowered. I ran over a frayed rug and pulled all the yarn out of the roller brush. It still makes an awful noise. ...

I wonder if there is more yarn caught around the drive end of the brush?
Can you remove the floor plate cover, over this part of the vacuum, and make sure there is not more yarn wrapped around, out of sight from the outside?
If not-- maybe the bearings have been damaged by the great deal of yarn.

Remove the cover plate, and tell us what yo fins-

You will need to pull the roller out and clean it. I think some of the strings are tangle up at the end of this roller. (Most rollers will come apart at the end for cleaning.) Make sure that the strings are not tangle up on the belt pulley as well. I hope this will help you.

Dyson blueprint beater bar won't turn

The Dyson DC 17 has a rug / floor switch on the head of the vacuum. Please check to make sure the switch is in the Rug position. If the brush roller still does not turn then you have broken the belt and need the following part.
