In my computer CD drive is not listed .I changed the jumpers from master to slave and slave to master. CD drive has got power it opens and close but not reading CD/DVD even it is not listed.model t3304.my...

Make sure the data cable is fully connected to the motherboard and the CD-Rom drive. If this is an IDE drive, make sure the jumper choice matches the position on the cable (the 40 pin wide ribbon cable that supports two drives). It also needs to be correctly oriented in the unit - the red stripe on the edge marks the side that goes to pin 1. Only use slave if there are two drives connected to the cable and the CD-rom is on the slave connection. (Note the connectors are black (motherboard), blue (master) and grey (slave) on a standard IDE ribbon. Newer IDE drives have a Cable Select option that you can leave the jumper set to and avoid issues of getting the connections wrong.) If it uses a SATA cable, the jumper should stay as Master (IIRC). If available, try a different connection on the motherboard for the data cable. (Some modern motherboards only have one IDE connector.) If you have any sort of IDE to SATA converter in use, try a direct connection in case the converter is damaged. SATA cables sometimes are designed to latch into connector on the drive so make sure it is fully seated.

Replace the cable if it still isn't connecting. Then check the status of the drivers. In Windows, use the Control Panel and go to the Device Manager. Look to see if the unit is listed with a red X or yellow exclamation point in a triangle. Try to update the driver.

If the above suggestions do not help, you should consider a new optical drive.

I hope this helps.

Acer 5536 saying media cable unplugged and no operating system, will not boot up.

Check that your ide cable connecting the drive to the motherboard is connected at both ends.

1. Open computer case.
2. Ground yourself by touching computer chassis before touching any component, especially the drive and the motherboard.
3. Check that the hard drive is attached to the ide cable firmly.
4. Check that the ide cable is attached to the motherboard

I can't find how to connect my dvd writer to the Asus Rampage II Extreme motherboard. The missed pin in the connection cable is in a different location

If you are trying to connect your DVD Writer using an IDE cable, then:
1. First, make sure that you are connecting the IDE cale in the correct direction. Make sure that the Red (or colored) wire in the cable aligns with pin 1 in the connector.
2. If the cable & connector are aligned correctly, then try to find a replacement IDE cable without a missed pin or with the missed pin in the correct position. This can cause no harm to neither the DVD Writer nor the motherboard.

Primary IDE master not detected

Hi darchie_1213,

Power off the system & unplug the power cord. Open your PC case. To remove any static build up from your body, touch the metal bottom of the case before touching any internal parts.
It sound like the primary IDE data cable is loose or the power cable to the drive is loose. Try disconnecting both & than re-connect them. If that does not stop the issue, replace the data cable for the primary IDE drive. Click on the link provided. The site will explain IDE connections & the differences between a 40-pin IDE data cable & an 80-pin data cable. (Pictures included & lots of helpful information).
http://www.mikeshardware.com/howtos/howto_connect_ide_hd.html

Try the above first. If the problem continues the issue could be the hard disk drive.

Hello. Some motherboards set SATA1 as IDE primary master, for compatibility. Try connect the DVD RW to SATA2 or SATA3 Port.

IDE Primary Master/Slave NONE

Hook the two together on the one working IDE connector. Put your hard drive as the first device on the ribbon cable and make it the master using the jumper at the back. Hook the DVD to the second and set it's jumper to slave. Install your OS then try to figure what's up.

No dvd drive

Couple of things to check:
1. Make sure the IDE cable is connected correctly and facing the right way both on the motherboard and on the back of the Drive. Remember on the drive it might not have a guide, but the rule is the stripe faces the power supply connection. On the mother board it normally has a guide that the IDE cable has to fit into.
2. Make sure the jumper settings are set correctly based on the location on the IDE cable the end of the cable requires it to be master most of the time if single drive. If it is running with another drive it has to be set as master or slave if it is on the same cable. Normally best is to set it as cable select. Main thing is it must match the arrangement of your drives.
3. Make sure the ends of the cable on the dvd and the mother board are pushed in all the way, and same for the power.
Hope this helps.

Slow detect Two IDE Device

1st make sure both jumpers are set correctly, the one in the end of the ide cable as master and the other in the middle of the cable as slave

you can also try connecting both with separate ide cables.
